Just checked my external HD and my network HD, total of 340GB, would anyone else cry for days if they lost there backup data...damn i would lol.

How much you got backed up?

i learnt the hard way about doing backups.

lost everything ,,,,,, cried for days. wouldnt even switch my pc on for a few weeks. (this was a long time ago)

now. nas server, backups up everything.

I have a copy of everything on the server (Active Directory Domain Controller), and a synchronised copy of my "my docs" folder on the local machine. Both server and local machine run RAID 5 for that extra peice of mind.

Server backs up to tape every night (incremental), and does a full backup once a week.

Overkill - Yes, but it has the potential to save a HELL of a lot of problems.

i dont have any offsite storage either. i dont really cover against fire.

only against hard drive failure, which from experience is much more likely.

although, now you have brought it up i might make one backup of the most important stuff and take it off site somewhere.......

overkill :D

Fully licenced? Approved hardware? Cost factor? Make sure your porn collection is in with the backups? :D

To the op's question, I have one 250GB removable drive for backup. It's all I need. Not important if I lost it cos most of it is distributed ISO files like linux e.t.c. and I have all the music on CD anyway.

Fully licensed = yes (Oh how I love MSDN subscriptions)
Approved hardware = IBM Netfinity server (Old, but does the job)
Porn collection? Why waste space storing what is free online? :p

hahaha I like it!!! So whats so important to have that sort of setup? You running an illigal inhouse dvd collection or something?

Photos, Music Collection, Video Collection, Persona Documents, you name it. Its a great lab for keeping up with latest software technology etc.

Its also got a small corporate domain for a solo project I may be starting up.

Nothing dodgy though.
