Your favourite song atm?

Blackout - I wish
Wigan Pier - Take me away
Shifty - We're always ahead
Wrigley, Liquid, Shifty, Golden Fists, Calibur, Skanka, Shotty, UNIT - What's the difference

I can guarantee that 99% of people will not have heard these songs before though unless they're from the North West and into underground rap/dance.

I find that too, but I've been finding that there's only so much old music you can tap into before it gets a bit samey. I do still do it, but that's the way I find it I guess.

Having said that though, I think, speaking as a 'guitarist', that today's music just doesn't really excite. The 70's and 80's were full of good exhibitions of guitar playing - and the 60's to a certain extent courtesy of the Beatles - but a lot of music these days consists of basic riffs and no solos which I find most disappointing indeed!

A lot of arguments go down the line that the 80's was a decade of self-obsessed guitarists, soloing to their own demise, but that was a long time ago now. I'm sure there will be a resurgence, as there is with most things, but the likes of Razorlight and a bunch of other similar bands just don't cut it with me. Less seems to be more these days.

I think you could say that speaking generally as a musician, rather than just a guitarist. Music does seem rather drab these days. I couldnt say that many records from this era will go down in history as classics and im sure many would agree. However, that doesnt bother probably 60% of music listeners so I guess that is fine for the masses. But I need more goddamit! I wanna be rocked and blown away by music, and thats something that doesnt happen very often anymore.

Saying that, I recently discovered soilwork and have been listening to natural born chaos which I am digging a lot lately. Has some fantastic guitar work, especially the solo on As We Speak. Also saw them at the mean fiddler and they rocked! To answer this thread, that would have to be my favourite ATM. Although they can be a little cringey at times, a lot of their songs are really well written and have a lot of impact. Check em out.

Joshua Radin & Schuyler Fisk - Paperweight (from The Lask Kiss Soundtrack, beautiful, understated love song)

Fratellis - Cuntry Boys And City Girls (fab, upbeat track from the band of the moment, I'm not pretentious enough to deny loving them despite their popularity)

Rachael Yamagata - Jesus Was A Crossmaker (mentioned this recently in another thread, but I am going to keep mentioning Yamagata until everyone loves her - poss the best female vocalist out there)

Now that my friend, is one good track! Bravo sir.

Yea its amazing. I'm a fan that kind of music. Rob Dougan's "Clubbed to Death" has a similar kind of feel. I'm looking for more tunes like it so if you have any that you know of stick em up.

Dear god,

Please please please don't let me stagnate like some of the older rockers on here.
Please don't let me say it was better in the old days and nothing comes close these days.
Please don't let me say "Because I'm a musician I find ..................etc".
I hope that when I reach 48 years of age that I'm still listening to up to date rock bands no matter what genre they come from.
And if I ever play in a band I hope my fans don't keep asking for bloody Whole Lotta Rosie, Highway to Hell, Breaking The Law and Paranoid.

Current faves come from meatloafs new album ;

Bad for good
Its all coming back to me now
The future just aint what it used to be
In the land of the pig the butcher is king
What about love :)

Bring Me The Horizon's debut full album is currently on repeat.

It's just about as heavy as you can get regarding newer bands, love it.

"Dead Man In Reno" are getting a lot of listening aswell, I highly reccomend them to any metalcore fans.

Seriously?

They're about as heavy as Maiden.

i.e. Not. At all.

For stuff in a similar vein but less...bad...Check out Charger, Matter, My War, Medulla Nocte, Murder One, Labrat (who suck), G.U.Medicine (who are awesome) and the kings of British Metal: Iron Monkey
