Which one? Vauxhall Astra 1.4 16V LS Mk4 (1998)
How much: £2500 (30k on clock)
Insurance: £1500 - Fully Comprehensive with Admiral (with a fault claim on my policy though as I had written off my Mum's Astra just over a year before)
Location: Canterbury (student too which increased the price)

Which one? Triumph Dolomite 1850HL
How much: £950 (33k on clock, yup)
Insurance: £1800- 3rd party, fire, theft, legal cover, nonstandard alloys

Insurance: £950 - 3rd party, fire, theft

It was great fun, cheap to run and never let me down. Bodywork started to rust a lot at the end though!

Which one? 1988 Fiat Uno 45 Fire
How much: £750 (100k on clock)
Insurance: £?? on dads ;)

The fire engine in that Uno was bulletproof. Never anything wrong mechanically on that car except consumables. It was so simple that I could service it and maintain it myself. Sold it for £30 with 186000 on the clock in the year 2000 and it still kept on going.

Prettymuch the same, which is why I had a Renault 5. :p In fairness I probably wouldn't have wrecked a better car that could hold the road. After the Ren I went to an L reg 306 XLd which was an amazing car*, had that for about 2 years and nothing scary happend. Had the Ren for 6 months and almost lost it a few times, then did lose it.

Now I'm on...

...so I'm back to what most people would call a first car...and in a way it is, because it's a car for being at uni that'll rack up my NCB :)

*unlike the Ren it held to the road whatever I did with it, and was comfy...although I did blow up the engine. :p - Happy Fox? :p

I feel exactly the same - I want to make the 'jump' as big as possible. Going from a 1.2 poverty spec '96 Clio with 110k miles on it, with electric *nothing* for 3 years to something like a 530i sport next year (fingers crossed). Also, while at uni I don't feel I have to worry about damage to it!

Will be a huge jump, and I'll feel like I've 'earned' it, if that makes any sense :P

Price: I didn't buy it, but around 1k I think (birthday present)
Insurance: I Have a feeling it was something horrible like 1.5k TPFT :O Paying less than a 3rd of that now :)
