I think I came on here for the Chili growers thread originally... ha that's about all I know. That period of my life was filled with many things that make remembering it clearly more difficult.

No chance of upgrading? you could invest in musk's satellite net.

Not yet. Tried 4g but its not any better than the 20Mb I have already.

Starlink is supposed to be available later this year for where I live but problems are its £430 for the equipment and £97 per month for 50Mbps to 150Mbps download speed with notes that its only a beta service and there may be periods where there is no connectivity at all. Useless for working from home and needing a reliable service then!

Of course this will improve as the number of satellites ramp up to the 40,000 he proposes to put up there.

Average latency is around 31ms so far for Starlink which isnt good for online gaming.

If I am spending £1200 per annum and £430 up front I want something better than vague promises of maybe a better download speed.

Paying £23 per month atm.

oh if you do online gaming then the only solution is to move to a city centre.

Or just wait for technology to catch up with where I live. The Govt missed a good opportunity to pay for fibre to everybodys home instead of HS2. Would have been a much better investment in GDP growth IMO.

It was on the old forums (purple and white default vbulletin theme I think?) and probably asking about upgrades from a Celeron 400 to an Athlon Thunderbird. :D

Ended up buying it with a Delta screamer fan... one of the worst decisions ever.
Do you still have all your fingers, or did you never open the case when it was powered on?

I have memories of someone posting about opening their case up whilst it was running with one of the 120mm deltas and IIRC getting blood all over it, whilst others reported things like moth guts being spattered all over their parts.
I only handled the Delta 120's a couple of times, but there was kick on them as they started that I've never felt on any other case fan.

I used to have 9 of them in my case! Was never safe to go inside when on!

Probably asking for help with something. Seeing as it was 2005, it was probably to do with the build of my new E6600 machine. My wife still uses that processor in hers today. I need to upgrade her.

Some of us have lurked for 15+ years, (although this particular account is a measly 10 years old and I guess this is my first post for 10 years. I don't even remember what I did with that Phenom I was asking advice for). Any other long-term lurkers that read OCUK every day, but never contribute?!)
