Your Home Setup

My Layout:

MySQL server and torrentbox
Compaq Proliant with Debian

I had the Gen 1 version of them and their insanely loud. Have you ripped the 2 system fans out or replaced them? Mine used to work in a school so the noise wasnt really a problem until I got it home

I just have my normal desktop PC and then a cobalt Raq3 for NAS/backup and a local webserver.

Main PC
Pentium 4 3.0E
WinXP
Counter Strike (Source)
Music, MSN, E-Mail, Browsing etc.

Laptop
Pentium M 1.73 Dothan
WinXP
Used to use it for all my schoolwork and coursework
Now I just use it for occasional school things, and the web

Server
Celeron 2.0Ghz
Debian Etch (Linux)
Runs a couple of websites (and the OcUK FAHStat sigs for Folding) (http://fahstat.piggott.me.uk)
Personal e-mail server
Torrentflux

Router
Pentium III 800Mhz
m0n0wall (http://m0n0.ch/wall)
Also got a Netgear FS108 switch, two ZyXEL G1000 Wireless access points, APC Smart UPS (1000VA) and a Linksys ADSL2MUE modem

Dad's PC
Celeron 2.4Ghz
WinXP

Mum's PC
Athlon 2600+ Barton
WinXP

Sister's Laptop
Sempron 3000+
WinXP

Used to have an old Compaq P4 box and a Fufitsu Siemens Dual PIII server, both running Debian Etch but I gave the Compaq away and sold the Fujitsu Siemens.

Four of the above machines are mine (server desktop laptop router). For a while now I've been trying to think of ways I can reduce that number but am really struggling. The most obvious one is the router - I'd like to still use m0n0wall but run it on less demanding (space, power, noise) hardware. Same with the server. Ideas much appreciated (on a very tight budget too).

My Layout:

My pc:
Windows XP Pro. For everything atm (server/storage/web browsing/gaming etc)

Brothers pc:
Windows XP Pro. For everything

Dads pc: Windows XP Pro. For everything

My Laptop:
Windows XP Home. Mainly used by gf for web browsing

File server: (in progress)
Ubuntu 7.04 Server Edition (need another drive)

Na, I've still got the standard fans in, it doesn't sit in a room that there are usually people in though, otherwise I'd have to change them!

erm, just the seven currently networked and usable .... :D

Main Box: WinXP, (Athlon64 3700) ... mostly video conferencing and general usage.
Laptop: WinXP/Suse 10.1, (Turion64 ML34) ... General usage (gets the most use)
Fileserver: Suse 10 (64bit), (Athlon64 3400) ... File/Web/Mysql serving (and general network services e.g. DNS).
Test Box: Currently Ubuntu 7.04 + Beryl, (AthlonXP 2500) ... for trying things out on without affecting the other systems.
PVR: Currently a Shuttle running WinXP (AthlonXP 2500) ... Spends most of its time hibernating and occasionally turns it self on to record things. Will be replaced soon with a E6600 based box.
Mac Mini: Original G4 Mini running Tiger. General use plus iTunes for music (and streaming to Airport Express) and Midi (GarageBand). Will probably be replaced with a new Intel model when Leopard comes out
Legacy Games Box: Win98/DOS, Piii600 ... for older games which don't like XP.

Theres a SUN and HP Workstation running the appropriate flavours of Unix as well but they are not currently on the network. Most of the kit, (apart from the Server and the PVR), spend the majority of their time powered off and only get turned on when needed :)

A wireless laptop, an extra monitor, and an external HDD. I see no need for all this extra hardware personally
