Your ideal + realistic reg plates

Quite a few I want, and all within budget. Well, when I can be bothered to blow a few hundred quid on one.

**0 FFR

Not really too fussed about the prefix, leaning towards A1 or R1 and print it so it becomes...

** 0FFR

As my surname is OFFER.

Otehr one would simply be *** RJO as thats my initials, again not fussed about the prefix too much.

The DVLA unfortunately won't let anything Rude through!... But I did hear a story (and saw the Proof on the Telly!... A Program with Quentin Wilson!) that they did accidentally let: PEN 1S through... I believe its on a Bright Red Merc SL500 of summut!... :D
:)

Steve Parrish had it last I knew

My ideal plate would be G4 RRY as it's my name. However, last time I looked, it was about £50k or maybe even £150k!

Otherwise, I'd like a suffix style plate, with my initials, and whatever after it. Something older like an A or B at the end would look good I think.

GJM xxxX

My dad has AJM xxxA, which is quite good as it has an A at each end :)

I wouldn't get a plate that relates to a car, as it will not increase the resale value of the car, and will often look silly on another car IMO.

However, before I realised that, I did spot K221 UDE on a Nissan 200SX, and thought it'd look very good on a Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC. K 2.2 1UDE (as in K, 2.2 litre preLUDE)

Anyone know how often plates come onto the market (apart from people sell their own, of course). The DVLA seem to allow batches or new combinations every so often?

I read somewhere (Probably here) that you can request ones that have not yet been released and they will got to public auctions to allow anyone to bid on them. No idea if thats even slightly true mind.

Depends on the type of plate. The most readily available are Prefix plates (A123ABC) and 'new style' plates (AA55ABC).

Prefix plates are available for all legal prefix letters with the exception of 'F' which they haven't got around to releasing yet for some reason (The scheme started when 'G' plate was current, over the years they've gone back and made A-E available). Depending on the prefix letter different number ranges are available, for the earliest letters (A-H) only the numbers 1-20 are available, for other letters various interesting numbers such as multiples of 10, 11, 100 and 111 are typically available. After this all legal 3 letter combinations at the end are available.

New style plates are only available for numbers which are already on general release, with these numbers you can choose any legal letters.

The exceptions to the above are any plates which the DVLA has identifed as being particularly valuble or offensive which they have held back. Periodically batches of these are sold at auction.

As well as the above there are Suffix (ABC123A) and Dateless (Various combinations of 1-3 letters either prefixed or suffixed with up to 3 numbers) numbers which have never been generally offered by the DVLA and which are only available via private sale or DVLA auction.

DVLA auctions are held every few months, details of which can be found here:

Have number plates gone up recently?

I could have swore that W* PGJ used to be £250 as I was thinking about getting it?

They're now £399!

I want

G60 SF

On my rado G60 with my initials SF.

However, i can only get G6 OSF.

My mums got D11 NNO, cost her about £3K, her name is DINO.

P 4 ULM > P4UL M would probably be my best plate, and as i dont own a car yet i have no realistic plate :D

ive had a few offers for the number plates to my cars.

One Corrado g60 is J15 JLP, seems a lot of people have the initials JLP.

The mk3 golf has M15 KTY, ive had a few Katies ask if i would sell it.

Silly thing is, at the time i said no, but now i probably would sell them :D
