Your mouse technique?..

Yo, I'm just wondering what everyones mouse techniques are when playing games.

For example, I apparently use the palm technique. I mainly play FPS games but on other games it's still the same. I've seen the grip technique but it looks uncomfortable and tiring.

Also, I've just been reading that some people right click with their ring finger. I personally use my middle finger to right click.

What's feels even weirder to me is that some people use their index finger to scroll. I'm guessing this could be because if I'm scrolling with my middle finger, I can still shoot with my index finger in FPS games.

Anyways, so I'm a palm-gripping-middle-finger-right-clicking-mouse-scrolling gamer.

What about you guys?

Claw-grip, palm barely touches and wrist hardly moves, index left-clicks and scrolls, middle right-clicks, and thumb for two side-buttons, when I use them.

I did experiment with middle finger for scrolling, theoretically it should be more efficient in fps games as the index finger doesn't have to do two jobs.

But I just went back to my old ways :p

It depends entirely on my carpal tunnel, if its not too bad then I use the palm grip, if it s being a PITA then I use the claw grip as my splint gets in the way.

Fingertip grip. Scroll with my index finger, but I don't actually use the scroll wheel for anything in games. Super low sensitivity (30cm for a 360 turn) so I mostly aim with my arm, but plant my wrist and use my fingers to aim when I need to for small movements.

I prefer larger, palm grip mice for my grip actually. Deathadder and MX518, which are supposedly palm grip mice, are my favourites even though my palm never gets close to the mouse.

I used to use a wrist stationary techinique till, I turned down the sensitivity and got a large mouse pad to be a better shot in fps. When your wrist is stationary moving left to right is done with an arc, not ideal.

Indeed. My aim went up by like 500% when I started using my arm to aim.

So you mean to raise your wrist off the mouse pad/desk?

Some interesting responses so far. It's good to get an insight into other gamers techniques.

Hmm I may try this lower sensitivity, but more arm movement tactic to see how it works. My only addition to the above comments os the use of the thumb button for Grenades.

I like minimum stress on my wrist so use a relaxed palm grip, ring finger RMB, index finger LMB, middle finger MMB. I use arm movement rather than stationary wrist.

It has changed a lot over the years (especially moving from ball mice to optical) but atm I claw grip it with my thumb and ring + little finger. I hold my wrist above the desk and move around like that. Seems to work well for me :)

MX518 here, palm grip with practically every game turned up to the absolute maximum sensitivity. Index finger for LMB and mouse wheel, middle finger for RMB. Thumb buttons usually for grenades and something else particular to the game.

I probably would use my middle finger for the scroll wheel, but I don't have the end on the one on my right hand! (accident years ago) so I can't use it properly. This also affects some movements when playing FPS, as I don't have great control over it and when using the scope sometimes I get a spasm which makes me pull the mouse right down. (that's my excuse anyway).

Logitech G9x. Claw-grip, palm barely touches and wrist hardly moves, index left-clicks and scrolls, middle right-clicks, and thumb for two side-buttons, when I use them.

Same but with a Deathadder.

Tried palming but I always go back to the claw without thinking about it.

MX518 here, I rest my wrist on my desk and hold my mouse between my thumb and little finger. I hold the mouse very lightly and twitch aim without my wrist moving much.
Index finger does left click, middle for roller and ring finger for right click. I have remapped the side button so that it stab's folk in the neck in bf3 :)
