your mpg figures pls :)

If it's an E39 with the M52 engine, I had a 540i and never got less than 18mpg

E39 535i is the M62 V8, just lower displacement to the 4.4 litre version in the 540i. Always found it a rather pointless lump in that it offers Inline Six 530i performance yet 540i running costs. Although that fuel consumption is awful, it should be about the same as a 540i.

2004 E60 530D. Getting 29.4 mpg average for the last 400 - 500 miles. As soon as I get it up to anything decent, the next day I have to take a run through the city which kills it right off :( I've learnt to ignore my mpg because it makes me drive too carefully.

Well I posted above you

same engine (but my vRS is a slightly larger car..maybe a bit heavier as well) and same figures almost round town..but yours seems way off on the motorway

I just put the cruise on set it to 75 and away I go

like I said on a trip up to aberdeen a couple of weeks ago got 40mpg...on a long motorway trip I would get 430-450 miles from a tank

Sorry mate, overlooked your post. Guess I had "GTi" on the brain :p

One of my coilpacks went faulty about 6 weeks ago and ever since they replaced it, I haven't been getting great MPG. I took it to VW and they reset the ECU's fuel economy settings back to "basic" and the in-town MPG increased quite nicely. Can't say the same for the motorway although it did increase from 27'ish to 33'ish.

Bugger :(

I managed a respectable 27.1 this morning on the way into the office which I was quite pleased with considering I averaged 18 over the weekend :)

50ish mpg revving to the redline at every opportunity. But it's a bike not a car :) . Could probably get 70ish if I took it easy all the time and equally could get it lower if I rode around town in 1st gear etc :D .

Still a lot of work to do to the car. Dr Amedi the previous owner saw to that. Its running all over the shop at the moment, I don't know whats going on with the ECU, so its in the shop on Thursday for diagnostics.

If the opportunity presents itself to purchase a 4.4 with manual gearbox, I may be very tempted, an engine swap is about the only thing I haven't done to it at the moment.

I wonder if changing to fully synthetic would have an effect.

Somewhere between 60 and 70 mpg, never put more than £20 in at a time, keep the car empty and the tyres reasonably hard.
£20 is about half a tank and that does at least 200 miles before the light comes on and then I usually refill it at the 260-270 mile mark. I thought I'd push it til it stopped and it did 368 miles (again on £20 from fresh air in the tank to begin with)
Fuel was 98. something it's now gone up to 101. something :(

Not the Impreza no, that does 6 mpg PMSL

This is my little smoker 1.5D pug 106

If its anything like the 6 cylinder ones, it shouldnt be run on anything but fully synthetic.

So the manual says, but BMW themselves have recommended me to use 10w40 semi due to the age of the engine. Apparently, fully synthetic can leak past the older seals.

If I drive it like it's meant to be driven well... let's just say that reaching 20mpg is an achievement! Grandpa driving, over 30 - probably touching on 35. that's for a "slightly" modified MX5.

Didnt realise how bad it was till i just worked it out!
Toyota Landcruiser 4.2TD

17 mpg round town
11 mpg out on the dirt tracks

Still, fuel is relatively cheap and i have 2 fuel tanks :)

I average just about 200miles on 45 odd litres mixed driving and about 260 on a 70-80 mph run when I am visiting my parents.
I guess that works out to.... 17ish mpg up to 23ish mpg
2005 Impreza STi Prodrive
