so when the batter dies your pad dies and you have to splash out £35 for a new one.

As far as I'm aware, Sony will replace any pads, with dead batteries.

The latest generation of Lithium Polymer batteries hardly suffer any memory effect at all, so it'll be many years before there's any degradation in terms of battery performance.

He also confirmed if the pads did ever die, then Sony would replace them free of charge

You can remove the batteries from MP3 players, Mobile Phones and Digital Cameras, you can't from your PS3 controllers, so when the batter dies your pad dies and you have to splash out £35 for a new one.
If the battery dies (and it's certainly not very common) then you just get onto Sony for a replacement... But I agree that you should be able to remove the battery yourself and buy additional rechargable batterys.

The Home beta certainly does not exclude Europe btw.

Do you miss having the choice of sticking four AA batteries into your mobile phone?

Err, no. Not that mobiles have ever given you that option. But if my mobile battery was to die, at least I can easily replace it with a new one by simply taking the cover off.

Sony might very well replace the pad for free if the battery dies, but surely a better option is to let the user just do it themselves, either with 'normal' batteries (either rechargeable or not) or an official/3rd party battery pack. If you only have a single pad, your stuffed till it's replaced.

I understand you can do it yourself by taking the pad apart, but why have that barrier there in the first place?

Really does make little sense however you try and defend it.

+ with PS3 controller if you only have the one you'd have to use it with a cable to charge it if it runs flat mid-game
(Yeah I know MS have the Play-and-Charge kit but that is an OPTIONAL extra)

I think the reasoning is the fact they say

Why give the option to replace it, when you don't think it will need to be replaced

Why give the option to replace it,when you don't think it will need to be replaced

Because of the 'just in case' factor

Because you might want to replace the battery with a higher spec one

Because you might want to swap to a full battery whilst your depleted one is charging, because the charging lead they give you is too short to reach from the TV to the sofa? (true in my case, I have to go and sit on the floor if I want to continue playing, and I only have a small living room)

Any more? :p

Obviously you didn't own one of those old brick-like motorolas :P The option to partition your hard drive would be nice, but I'm assuming most gamers wouldn't really be bothered with half the things listed on here.

I'll give you those :p

Personally for my 360, I use Rechargeable Energiser batteries, I have 4, 2 always charged. 2 in the pad.

Yeah, but then again this thread is about "wants" for next version and I think generally people would rather have a replacable battery.

Oh indeed, This has spurred from Nokkon saying you have to purchase a new pad if the old one dies, I was pointing out you didnt. And then escalation ensued :D

1)Blu-ray
2)A decent amount of ram.
3)Big Hard-drive as standard (if and when downloadable media becomes more important).
4)Decent cooling and less noise.
5)The ability to electrocute annoying Americans online.

There's the obvious (well at least I think they are) ones mentioned already for the Xbox and PS3. My big wonder comes from what Nintendo has planned. Gotta be Wii + HD + HDD as a basis. From then?
