Exactly, what would be the point in making a system that you sell the disks as soon as they were installed.
What's the point of selling discs if you have to install all 50gb to the HDD anyway? Just download it.
When most (popular) ISPs will limit you to 56k for a month for going over 5gb?
There's no way off us get fibre by the next gen, so digital distribution will be very limited.
Next gen consoles probably won't have full downloadable games because it'll be nigh on impossible to control piracy that way- I mean unless they tie all games to your profile / console - which will cause legions of nerds to complain that they are being too big brother controlling...
The main improvement needs to be fewer sku's because quite frankly this generation has been a joke. There are far too many versions of 360 which have only been detrimental to the quality of the games (i.e. no mandatory hd). The PS3 was even worse with them releasing a fully featured console in the 60gb version and then cutting it down with the 40gb (in the UK of course

PC's highest selling games distribution method is Steam. Either way, I don't want Downloadable Games, what I did say is that if you have to install a whole game and still use the disc you may as well download them.

Playstation 3 had 4 versions plus a MGS4 Limited Edition.
I wouldn't say either were bad, originally there were only 2 for Xbox360, a third later added into having those believe HDD space is everything (an argument we heard no end of when PS3 was released) and in black for people complaining white didn't go.
Sony had 1 here at launch, 2 in America. But Sony bring a new one in and remove others, 40 for 60gb here, for 20gb in America and 80gb to replace 60gb in America.
There have been a lot of SKU's if you add them up, but at anyone time it's not as bad as people would have you believe.

That's the way of the market. The last console to only do games was the Dreamcast, and because it didn't offer the media capabilities of the competition it got battered and ultimately removed Sega from the hardware market.
- Lower Power Consumption
- Full 1080p support for 100% of the Titles released
- Less exclusives more universal
- Less bullc**p perhipherals
- No Online Fee's, i dont really want to be paying when PC does it for free. I wouldn't mind adverts being used in the online mode if it came free.
- Blu-Ray Support or whatever the dominant video format will be
- Built in Wireless functionality no seperate connectors
- Backwards compatability with atleast the last gen console

360 with less noise, more power (DON'T SKIMP ON RAM YOU TIGHT LITTLE ********!), fixed platform and downloadable games alongside retail disks (ala steam) with manual storage upgrade possible.
Would be nice if the idiots didn't push for 1080p so prematurely too but that won't happen with sony and MS's stupid stats race.

Less noise/no nouse (huge fans if need be in a large case =/, Id still have a large silent thing over a small thing)

A lot of the stuff I can think of has been covered so far. I have a ps3 and have these thoughts for next gen:
Stop charging europe more- Ignoring tv/monitor a gaming pc that is better than a ps3/360 doesnt cost THAT much more than the release price of the ps3.
Bring things out everywhere at the same time! I got my DS3 from hong kong 6 moths ago (and yes it cost less than they do here now).
Stop porting games over with crap framerates (a serious ps3 issue).
A controller that feels natural in the hand, just like a cube/360 one does.
Mandatory 1080p support should be enforced over all consoles, and also why do I need to install games on the ps3??? Scrap that and make consoles quieter.
