Your opinion wanted

Anyhow as you want petrol with performance and economy, I would suggest a Honda, that way keep the revs low, you have the economy, wack the revs high and you've got waaaa hooo.

So either maybe an integra DC5 or the earlier one as not many DC5's in that price range i don't think:

Or maybe a Civic Type R

Except for the fact that on the motorway at 80mph these things are around 4krpm and so will return nothing near the 42mpg he currently gets. :)

S2000, lol. This is a guy who thinks his Punto has 'grip', I dont think he needs or wants a 250bhp RWD convertible or a Honda Integra. I was joking when I said somebody would suggest a performance car, I didnt think somebody actually would, haha :D

Something like a Focus would do the job. And not an ST.

No need to be patronising.

Also, have you even driven one one these? This particular model?

I'm only saying it grips well, at no point have I compared it to anything else, or said that grips like a super car, it just grips 'well' for what it is, a supermini.

On the 3 honda's, I can't see them being especially comfy either. Probably even firmer than what I have now lol.

It came across as slightly patronising. Your quite right, although I love the idea of a 2 seater, sporty, high revving, noisy S2000 just like any other guy on here, I don't think it fits the bill here.

I like the idea of a convertible, although I still think they are impractical given our climate, unless it is a hard top (for motorway wind noise). But I won't be able to afford anything nice like that anyway.

Good point, not really thinking of that but as motorways will be occuring more often will have to have a re-think

Alas, but when somebody says they want decent performance thats the territory i start thinking, I would class the current Punto in 'Sports' Terroritory, but not decent performance per se. Hence the optioins above.

I wouldn't of suggested an ST focus anyway due to the shocking reports of fuel economy on them. You realise you haven't actually made a suggestion foxy, lets see what you come up with. Oh yes, no need

it might be a BMW

:D Sorry had to :D

Yes of course, as I'm known for suggesting BMW's on here.

Oh wait, I never suggest BMW's.

I've made a suggestion - you even quoted it in your reply.

Oh, you were serious? Sorry I thought we were repying to a guy who didn't like Ford's or Vauxhalls but nevermind

I think a Focus is a tad more seroius a suggestion than recommending somebody with a late model Punto who wants a bit more economy and a bit comfort to buy a Honda Integra Type R.

Lol.

I don't know what it is, but there isn't a single Vauxhall I like (bar the old Monaro obviously).

I also like the outside of the new Fiesta, but the dash is awful imo. Way too many buttons.

I don't mind the focus just before the new one, but it's just that everyone else has one that puts me off. In the 6-8 months I have had my car, I have seen 2 other Sportings the same model as mine. Might start giving them a serious look.

Either you want performance or you want economy, you can't always have both and he doesn't particularly want a diesel.

He asked for opinions. I gave mine.

I dont think he wants the performance you think he wants. He reels off the performance stats of his Punto - 130bhp - which gives you an idea of his level of expectation. It isn't of a 200bhp tarmac terrorist.

By performance he presumably means it isn't a slug - which something like a 1.8 Focus won't be.

Sorry, maybe I used the wrong words. Fox is near enough there. I just don't want something that is a slug, like some crappy eco box or something. Obviously my car is quite light, and if I were to go for the focus I would definitely go for the 2.0 litre. I'd love an ST, but insurance/fuel would be too much for me in my current circumstances.

Ok fair enough I will try a different angle - have you thought much about the Audi A3 or a VW Golf Mk4/5 and looking at parkers for which engine is right for you because there are quite a lot of variations?

Audi A3 - Bit out of budget are they not?
Mk4 Golf - Way to old
Mk5 Golf - Personally I think it is very, very drab, dull and boring to look at inside and out. Also, with my budget i'd end up with a poverty spec one (ie, not GT).
