Your settings for Nvidia control panel

Hey guys.

The 3d settings in the nvidia control panel seem really confusing to me. Currently i leave them on the default setting.

I just wanted to know what settings are you guys using to provide the best performance for your graphics card(s)?

Default everything for me. Games know what options they can support, so it doesn't make much sense to be customising global settings :)

Only thing I might force is vsync if for some reason a game doesn't have the option for it.
 
So it's best to leave everything on default? all these settings must do something to improve the image quality or fps of certain games right? i might have a play around and see if i can get any performance increase from my cards.
 
These days theres less implications from having less optimal settings - I still usually change multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration to single display performance mode for best results unless I'm using a multi display/gpu (not necessarily SLI) setup and know a different setting helps.

Most applications these days work well with the default settings and/or fully implement support for application-controlled, etc. so you only really need to change those via application profiles for older games that you know have an issue.
 
Default is fine, I may go in there to force a vsync mode or force SLI if a game doesn't support it natively (yet most worked fine with it forced, go figure).
 
Shader cache - on (disable if you get game crashes, otherwise it speeds up load times)
Triple buffering - off, gsync doesn't use it
Vsync - gsync (I own a gsync monitor, otherwise I'd use adaptive)
Power management - adaptive (pref max performance can avoid micro stutter when clocks change, but it also stops the cards from lowering to 2D clocks outside of games)
Ambient occlusion - OFF (dont enable this as it causes numerous graphical artifacts with games that simply don't support it, World of Warcraft being one of them)
Anisotropic filtering - application controlled (as this uses the optimised profiles instead of a forced method which is slower)
Trilinear optimisation - on (can't see a drop in IQ at all)
Negative LOD bias - clamp (better IQ, minimal hit to fps)
Anisotropic sample optimisation - off (causes shimmering, even when clamped)
 
Interesting how everyone has slightly different settings...There are so many configs i found online...Will definitely try them out to see if i can improve image quality and performance in some games.

What about in older games like il2,gtl,gtr2 and nascar racing, that do not have a option like 2x 4x 8x 16x for Anisotropic filtering, they just have enable Anisotropic filtering, if i then use like 16x forced in nvidia 3d panel, will it be better ?

For older games, best setting up a profile for each of them linking to their exe and just force it. The hit in framerate won't matter as much as it does in a more modern game and you'll have better IQ.
 
Thx for reply, you mean in nvidia 3D control panel, where you list the game or application, and then just change the things you want for that game ? i think thats what you mean dont you.
