My girlfriend has dropped her iphone a few times now and cracked the screen. She took it to one of those newsagent type places to get the screen repaired as she couldn't afford to get it done at Apple at the time. She's managed to drop it again and the screen is cracked all over again.

She took out PYB insurance last year but hasn't made a claim because she thinks they will turn her down because someone 'not authorised' has made a repair.

Do you think that she could still make a claim?

It's worth a shot either way the worst they can do is say no, although I've not heard anything good about them to be honest.

I know, I just been reading their full terms & conditions. The phone has to be under 12 months old when the policy is taken out or it's not covered. I am not even sure it was under 12 months when she took out the policy. Hope so.

I keep telling her these policies are a waste of money but she insists on having it in case it gets lost or stolen.

Buy her a cheaper phone that she can trash, as it sounds like she can't look after expensive gadge. ;)

they do.. but a plastic/metal phone won't break like that :) and she is clearly not careful with her stuff if she managed to smash it a few times already.

buy a decent case - problem solved, seriously the amount of people on here that are anti-case is unbelievable, especially in the nexus 4 thread.

at the gym yesterday some guy dropped his iphone, luckily though the screen had already been smashed so no real harm done, he just decided rather than buying a case in the first place it is better to use a phone with a smashed up screen.

They will do anything they can to to pay, total scum, cancel that policy ASAP and stop wasting money. Although always worth a try,

See if your bank/house has insurance.

I'm not anti-case myself but I don't have one for my Nexus 4 and don't feel I need to have one however yes my g/f is a bit accident prone...aren't most of them?

I only cracked a corner of the glass on my HTC Desire in almost 2.5 years of ownership and that was from 10cm on to a concrete surface.

this is how i generally make my decision.

is it insured? if so will this insurance pay out for accidental damage and will the premium increase for making a claim? is there an excess charge? is the excess charge greater than the cost of a case?

in most cases it is always better to have a case just in case, you do not need to be accident prone or indeed an idiot in order to drop your phone and smash the screen, it can happen to anyone, therefore i do not see the point in taking such a risk with an expensive fragile device, such as a nexus 4 (what i own).

surely since this is the second time this has now happened, you should realise that a case is a much better idea than continuing to smash the phone every time it drops?
