Your thoughts please... 680 SLI and Surround or wait for GK110

Up and running!

DPD man came at 7:39 :).

It was touch and go about whether they'd fit on my desk but they JUST do with monitor 3 kind of wedged against the wall to stop it rocking! lol

Sorry for poor quality - used iPhone4 camera...

Need to move mouse mat, mouse and keyboard to be more central then I'm good to go!

Looks good :) how about portrait monitors? Get those bezels off too :p

Haven't decided if I'm keeping them yet. More an expensive trial. I "wow" 'ed when I sat down in front of them. Just done my bezel correction (needed 125 :()

Cool, I'm soo jealous of the 3 screens, I don't have the space myself.

Just using a single 680 Rusty?

If yes, how's it doing?

Bout to head into the Battlefield. My overclock is quite high so expecting to be able to play on High preset with no MSAA I would imagine!

Edit: Ultra, MSAAx2 not enough GPU power. Trying High preset now.

The 'stretching' on the two surround screens bugs me a little. High was fine for the most part. Had motion blur off and HBAO/SSAO off as well as I hate them in BF3.

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
27919, 474383, 43, 152, 58.853

Probably knock around 15% off for a stock 680.#

BF3, Conquest 64, Operation Firestorm, moving between B, C, D and E

Edit: Yes, 1 680 Tommy.

To be fair Ultra with no MSAA and FXAA maxed wasn't that much worse than that. I feel the pain when it drops below 50 FPS though. Will try medium but don't think it'll make much difference.

Just run Fraps and press F11 with min/max/average selected. Probably need the full version.

I've had it for years ever since I used to make our killing videos back in the days of World of Warcraft :)!

How you tried auto settings yet?

Auto is just a combination of medium settings. I see the benefits of lowering settings to get the Surround set up but as I've got a new 680 by my feet I think I'll try that :).

To be fair, the stretching is bothering me more than the drop in settings at the mo.

Anyone use a custom FOV to alleviate the problem a little? Apparently that can help.

Very nice Rusty. :)

Are you able to run your monitors in Portrait mode? I have tried Landscape a number of times and I just can't get on with it due to the stretching. I also found that I was less tolerant of a lower framerate as well.

Your are getting very similar performance to me (single 670 overclocked to 1313/7000 in my case) at around 60fps average at high settings. As long as you don't touch any MSAA settings you can't get a good average framerate.

Thanks. Mine was in multiplayer though (couple of tanks being repair tooled by me as well!) - yours is the single player start isn't it? It's a shame there isn't a 64 man set benchmark because any benchmark I do is going to be different :(.

I am going to try portrait to see how I get on although I think I'll struggle with the bezels being relatively close to each other.

Have to say, no MSAA isn't as bad as I thought on three screens. It's kind of artificially reduced because there's SO much to look at you don't focus on it. But I did still notice it. 2x was nice (as you say, the difference between 2x and 4x is minimal and the hit is huge).

Yeah changed now to the middle monitor in front of the other two and it is better. The fish eye effect on the sides still bug me a little as if I spot someone in a side monitor it's hard to move and acquire a target quickly due to the differing depth perceptions. Think I need to try portrait!

I will get a stand if I stick with it. Better game like hell over the next week to decide! I do think it's a case of getting used to it as well... it's just the obvious bits which are bugging me:

a) can't find a way to save the bezel corrected resolution and then move back to extended desktop mode when finished gaming
b) stretched side monitors in landscape (should try portrait)

On the plus side - I'm happy with the performance of one card it's as I was expecting which is decent enough if you're happy to sacrifice some IQ. I'm happy with the angles of the three screens now as well (angle more acute)

I missed my delivery by about 5 minutes this morning :(

Gotta wait til monday now :(

That really sucks. :(

Really, really should commence the rebuild at some point but I have little enthusiasm for re-installing everything.... . The actual physical building is fine, it's afterwards...

Excellent :)
How well does the new 680 over clock?

That will have to be a tomorrow answer. Hoping for 1200 at least and I'll be happy. The 680 windforce is a beastly looking card. Both cards running very, very cool at idle which is a good start. Means there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the set-up/airflow.

Just need to run some benchmarks tomorrow to get a feel of how it overclocks. And I need to re-do my overclock on the CPU which I'm not looking forward to!

Is that 'fisheye' effect bad Rusty? This was one thing that looked weird IMO. It looked fine with games like Dirt 3 but BF3 made it look wrong.

It's difficult to say. Because my perception of it could be worse because the whole thing is new and I was looking directly at the side monitors testing it all out.

What I will say is it is definitely noticeable while playing if you do look at it. If you let the periphery screens settle in the corner of your eye, it works quite well.

I can't get a custom FOV to make it look any better. I will try portrait surround to see how it goes.

On the plus side it looks like my second 680 is a decent clocker. Boosts to around 1150 out the box and just passed Heaven first time with a +100 boost to 1250 (no memory overclock for that run). Score was 2020 which ain't bad for no memory overclock!

If I can get another 20 Mhz out the core then that'll match my current 680.

2100 with +110 and +350 :)

CPU is at stock as well although don't know how much difference an extra 1.2 Ghz will make on the score.

Forgot to mention... I had a PCI sound card. PCI slot is next PCI-E 8x slot :(.

Result - no sound card. Guess that'll have to be sold! :(

At least they're not overly expensive to buy a PCI-E card and stick in the top slot.

u can't stop till u pass 4000 :p

Think that puts you at no.10 on the multi GPU table :)

Haha! I know - very disappointed with 2 short :p. I could run it again and probably get it but I'm not a big fan of benchmarking. I use it to see that I'm running where I should be. Then I game like hell! :)

The worst bit about formatting is the installation and patching of everything. Takes so long and I only have a 7MB connection.

2.8MB/s? I get around 800kb/s! :) Or you mean you get 2.8MB down?

Benchmark of 1080p multiplayer BF3 full Ultra except motion blur and HBAO which were both off - Caspian Border 64. SLI 680's at 1260 core:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
135471, 1221020, 38, 185, 110.949

No idea what the minimum of 38 was. Game just shuddered and I died. Probably a game/server problem :)

The 680's weren't fully utilised. It was like "this is too easy" and kicked back with the feet up. Ha ha.
