Any tips, to ensure good dental care and good breath. I brush twice a day, don't smoke and often eat healthy but I feel there could be room for improvement. I also hate the hygienist, should visit her more but mine isn't really friendly and everytime I visit her, I have pains in my mouth for days, so would rather just use interdental brushes, my electric toothbrush and twice a day brushing. What are your tips please. Oh and I also don't really like mouthwashs as most are way to chemical and I feel they just mask the smells.

there's a thread you can find ... floss, don't add water, or rinse. ... only discovered the latter one last year.
e: don't brush teeth after acid food apples/pineapple/citrus, when enamel soft

I usually only brush my teeth once a day, leave it 15 years in between going to the dentist.

Went to the dentist last month, dentist spent all of about 5 minutes said I had good oral hygiene and booked the next check up for a year.

I dunno what the fuss is about.

Care less. You already do more than necessary unless you have an underlying medical problem or eat a lot of sugary stuff.

Which is the main point of a mouthwash. They're usually also antiseptic, but that's mainly also about smell.

If you want to use different chemicals that you can classify as somehow not chemicals, you could go old school mouthwash and chew herbs. Parsley was particularly popular for that purpose in high and late medieval England. Probably in other times and places too, but it's mainly high and late medieval England that I'm interested in and thus know a little about. Wine was also quite widely recommended as a mouthwash. The surviving sources often say sweet wine, but in that context I think it's more likely that "sweet" is used in one of its older meanings - pure. Although there were also mouthwashes combining wine and herbs.

brush/scrape your tongue

Are there people who don't include that as part of brushing their teeth? I'd just assumed it was a routine part of doing so. Teeth, gums, tongue, all in one go. Do some people clean just their teeth and nothing else? If so, why?

Mines the exact opposite shes absolutely charming lol. Also my teeth don't hurt afterwards. I'd get shot of sharpish I doubt theres a shortage of hygienists unlike dentists

Good point. I always try but it's literally chokes me when I try and brush ghev top end of my tongue! Any tips and stuff I could use for this part of my oral hygiene?

Other than brushing and cleaning your tongue, just make sure you dont neglect flossing. I also use an antibacterial mouth wash(Chlorhexidine). Just dont use mouth wash immediately after brushing as it removes the fluoride left from the toothpaste.

I don’t believe in going overboard with brushing either, conscious of my gums. Twice a day is fine.

Don't go so far back that it makes you gag. A gag reflex is normal. You're never going to get anywhere near sterilising your mouth, so it's all a matter of taking cleaning to a reasonable level.

I'm prone to getting tartar build up and the hygienist is a rip off so I quite often do it myself. Buy a cheap metal plaque removal kit from Amazon and keep clean that way.

That's a good idea. My wife could actually help with the cleaning process , if I buy the kit from amazon. Good suggestion.
