Your train has been delayed due to...

Not sure what the rules are, but are they allowed to wear sunglasses? If not I could see how sunlight in your eyes might be a problem for a train driver responding to signals.

Driving to work this morning I had sunglasses on and my sunscreen down and still struggled a bit.

Edit - have read the article. Sunlight directly in their mirrors obscuring the view of the train, so they had to get out and visually check everybody was safely off/aboard.

Fair enough, Probably adds a minute per stop, 10 stops and it's running 10 minutes late.

They should really just lie about why trains are delayed. Nobody questions a dead cow on the tracks, but when you give silly reasons it only makes the angry commuters even angrier.

Edit - Reading the article it makes perfect sense, however it sounds like a stupid reason until it is fully explained, which wont happen over an announcement in a busy station.

So, the country that invented the train can't get them to work in hot weather, cold weather, autumn, rain, snow, wind or now when it's sunny.

Great...

I know the announcement was a complete joke, but wasn't the Paddington rail disaster caused because a driver couldn't see a signal because of bright sunlight?

More so than the limited rail service I am just surprised that in 2016 we can't eliminate the glare by using tinted mirrors on trains?

Posters directing personal insults at me seem to forget how train drivers managed with the sun for so long, I did read the article and can see why the trains were delayed - but why couldn't the conductor check whether or not the train was safe to leave the station and signal to the driver via the driver cab controls.

Would you rather the driver risked it like they may have done in the past and caused a crash killing hundreds and requiring a cleanup, lawsuit and prosecution and further delays while an investigation and rebuild of the infrastructure was completed? For the sake of a few minutes?
