your view on skoda?

I think modern Skoda's are pretty good cars. Its just a shame that the standard models lack flair - I tried a new Octavia a while back and whilst there was nothing much wrong with it, it just had the feel of a car that my grandfather would drive and that put me right off.

I'm going on Saturday with a mate who was after a Golf GTi, but I've persuaded him to try a new Octavia vRS which is much the same car, but is available for £16k through a broker as opposed to £20k+ for a Golf.

Don't really have a problem with them. Cheap cars, and the Octavia is a pretty smart looking car IMO.

The badge is tainted, but those days are well gone. TBH, if I was looking for another car ( and I nearly was the other day) and it covered my needs I'd consider one. I mean, you can't beat that price, although they aren't as cheap as the used to be.

I agree they will soon be a well regarded motor.. Just look at many of the Japanese cars... Datsun was so bad, they marketed the car in other countries as Nissan....!!

No, I'd buy one.. No problem with them at all.

Edit - I meant the badge "WAS" tainted.. LOL

Skoda doesn't have that much stigma outside UK - at least not as much as FSO or Lada has.
FSO are still making cars??
you're kidding??
wow..../in shock.

For the record, my Dad actually drives a Lada Niva.
in that case, assuming your father doesn't live somewhere urban,he has excellent taste.the Niva is unbelievably good at living up to its intended design purpose.

Quite a step up from your old Mondy then ;) :D

Regarding Skoda, my mums' fiancee has had a Superb for almost 3 years.

The turbo packed up about 6 months ago but apart from that, it's a nice car. I've only been in it once, but it felt very solidy built (well I guess it is a VW) and even my mum could drive it (albeit badly :D)

They've done well for themselves in the last few years. People are starting to respect Skoda and not slate them. If only Rover had the same treatment :(

Would i have a Skoda? Hell yeah, like the styling of them and im not bothered about it being a Skoda. In fact im trying to get my Dad to buy the new Octavia vRS.

Skoda are great - I've had my VRS for almost two years now. Any badge snobbery or poor reputation is totally misplaced, anyone who knows anything about cars will tell you Skodas are great cars, right up there with the best mass produced cars available.

Yup, he flies hawks and uses it for rambling down mountains and "whites". It looks like something out of Mad Max but it does exactly what it says on the tin. He used to have an old Daewoo thing on the road but he doesn't even use that any more.

In the next few years, skoda will be up there with the likes of vw and audi.
Rich

Too late they already are

the octavia is just a bora with a badge change.

same 1.9tdi as my A4 and a bloody lovely car. build quality is as good as anything with 4 rings and i honestly think my audi will be replace with a skoda come renewal

an octavia vrs, is well high on the list for my next car.
10 years ago i'd rather have walked than buy a skoda, but they have done an awesome job on their cars, and to have turned them into what they are today. deserves a fair amount of praise aimed at VAG if you ask me.

mine is that they have done well and produce some decent cars, however the name still carries a stigma of a cheep mans car.

however the RS models seem to do well again and look quite smart.

Would you have one?
would you let your dad have one?

My Dad does have one - Felicia 1.6GLXi
I liked driving it so much that I went out and bought one too :D Mines only 1.3 but it gets me about no problem.
I'd deffinately have a VRs if funds permitted.

I'll have a 06 plate Skoda Octavia company car in 2 months - Dont have a problem with them either after all the engine I should get 140bhp out of it! :D
