I am needing to build a new system over the next few weeks as mine has just broke. This is system is speciffically for gamming (as well as media storage, hence the 500GB hdd), i would like peoples views on this system build, specifically anything people have had problems with as well as different options out their. I will hopefully be overclocking the cpu to 2.4GHz as this will be apparantly an easy overclock, as well as my first. This will also be the first time i have build my own system, anything to look out for???

  • I am also still unsure on whether i will see benefits of a GTX on that size monitor or just go for a GTS?
  • Will that power supply be sufficient?
  • Is that ram ok, or is there a better alternative?
  • Is their any issues with that motherboard? Advantages over the cheaper ones?

Spec I like.

I wouldn't bother with a raptor though, get two of these instead and RAID them instead of the 500GB. :D http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-078-SE

That case is abit tacky to be honost. One of the Lian Li cases i would recommend here, they are things of quality. Personal favourite though :)

If your looking to overclock here, that CPU will easily go above 3GHz, its not like an AMD which only clocks by 200MHz, these things clock criminally.

The Ballisitix 2gb PC5300 kit clocks to 1000MHz which is superb for overclocking and it will beat the Giel kit.

Motherboard is abit overkill in my opinion. Theres 2 which are very promising for overclockability at the moment. DS3P and the P5N-E SLI.

Personally I would go with the DS3P because of the chipset in it works well with the Ballistix ram I beleive.

If you can crank the CPU up to a E6420 or E6600 in your budget then they are better choices.

Just a few pointers :) Hope it helps.

Thanks for the quick replys (keep them comming lol).
I too was unsure on getting the raptor, as tbh i dont have the money to burn and performance increases prolly wouldnt be worth the money. so that will save £50 getting a normal 80gb instead.

I have never seen the antec 900 in 'real life', just wondering whether particular reasons why you dont like it, also i have heard of someone recieving one where all of the blue lights were not the same shade of blue, that would be annoying, dont know if thats a one of or something. Never really did get why lian li cases were so expencive, are they good for cooling?

Whats your view on GTX with that size monitor as well, not forgetting crysis later this year.

EDIT: thanks for the options on the motherboard, i was a bit stuck on what to do go for.
Not definate on what i will overclock to, first time, so bit unsure on doing a massive one might end up going past 2.4 depending on temps.

EDIT2: soz for the double edit, i prolly couldnt stretch to the e6600, but would go for the e6420, has it got better multiplier on it??

also would the lian li be able to fit the GTX? (if i do end up getting that card)

I would still recommend getting the dual 320gb RAID, it will make your system run faster with raid rather than 2 seperate hdd's

Theres nothing 'wrong' with it as such. I find the Lian-Li cases to be quality rather than flashing blue lights and plastic. Thats up to you it doesn't make much difference to your system.

The GTX is a monster. It should be able to handle crysis fine.

The E6420 will go to 3GHz and beyond with ease, and only be at low 50's under full load which is amazing for the overclock %. Forgot to mention that you will need a CPU cooler if you want to clock it that high really, I would recommend the Noctua :-) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-002-NC

Errr I don't remember and I dont have one here to go check.
