I mean the backup procedures. Are you are a pro or something?
No, just slightly paranoid. The backups are hardly challenging though, all I do is fire up the external disk and run Vice Versa Pro to sync the internal disks with the external one. Depending on how many photos need backed up it can be done in less than 5 mins.

I think I'm going to follow your strategy on this. Going to invest in an external hdd when I'm back from holiday

The usual way to do it is just to import everything straight off the card. It then organises it for you; you never have to touch the files themselves in explorer.

I would like to use LR to do this.

But as far as I can see, LR only has a facility to COPY files off the card. I want to MOVE the files off the card.

It is very easy to accidentally or forgetfully copy less than all of the files. Since the next step is to delete all the images on the card, it is easy to delete something you havn't copied.

For this reason, I MOVE the files from card to disk at the OS level and then import.
