I notice a lot of channels have started to put a little “progress bar” along the bottom of the screen while they’re doing the in video sponsor ads.

On the pc I’ve been using an extension for just over a week called SponsorBlock and I love it, auto skips if you want over sponsor segments or even self promotion if you want to as well. Supports Firefox as well.

I've cancelled Premium. Saving my self few quid.
Ublock origin and SponserBlock installed on Firefox. Removed youtube app on my iPhone and installed Brave Browser, no ads etc.
Done the same thing on son/daughter laptop and on their phones and Mrs phone too.

Faff around, moan or just pay a quid a month.
I've been paying for premium for a very long time. If i can save few quid and use ublock and sponser block then why not?I'd rather click browser open and pay nothing, without having to faff around with a VPN...
Only getting the hang of using Brave Browser on my iphone. But like everyting else, you just adapt

Yeah, the phone angle can be tricky I've heard but as someone who doesn't really use YT on my phone it's not an issue. I just can't get on with tiny screen experiences.

I spent more effort having to update vanced constantly, and constantly battling youtube ads with my pi-hole than i ever did using a vpn to pay for a google sub once every couple of years.

I don't think many people would do this in your position. It's too much of a faff and just more convenient to pay the toll.
You're gonna get a headache if YT throws a spanner in the works though
I believe you can. Some of the main benefits of premium could be done by just watching YouTube with your phones browser.
Which is why the mobile browser version of YouTube is terrible.
I downloaded Revanced about 4-5 months ago and it's been absolutely top notch, never skipped a beat and hasn't needed any updates. Give it a shot
