Is there a way to make this float when I want to read other tabs? Like with VLC or Media Player on the Desktop

Just drag the tab to a blank area of your desktop, resize as necessary. Surf in new window.

My browser runs full-screen, I'm only on a small laptop. Surely there is some plugin that can do this?

Firfox and Chrome both support more than one tab:

But I usually download the YouTube videos offline with enolsoft on my mac, so no need worry about this.

Yeah there is a lot of workarounds but would be best just to be neatest and use the least space possible, if the video just had a right-click stay on top of other tabs option... then I can drag it to the bottom right and have my reading tabs or OcUK taking up the rest of the space.

Youtube has a popout option when you right click the video.
