I would not think this a great idea in practice. Open flames like these candles being used all the time could lead to something catching on fire (I know people use candles all the time, but still...). Also they must give off something in the fumes here?

You're right, it doesn't generate additional heat, it merely improves the deliverence of the heat. Also I wouldn't worry about the fumes from 4 small candles, you probably breath worse when you open a window in any relatively built-up area. :)
 
Just found this on Youtube.

For those of you interested (which let's be honest, is probably none of you) and with 45 minutes to spare, the last ship I worked on as a cadet, Tijuca was a sister ship of this one, pretty much identical, except for being painted orange where this one is painted green.


Brings back memories...

The setup in the video is quite smart and will maximise the convection current. Hot air will be pushed out quickly, cooler air comes in and is in turn heated and pushed out.

Not technically creating "additional" heat but it maximises the potential heat whereas straight off burning a candle in the open is very inefficient for heat.

Seems fake to me, why would she hate him so much or feel out of place but then go out at night with the same guy?

Actually, I've known women to go out with someone they don't like again just for a night out, so scratch that :p
