Or just never heard it. He must have been very focused on the landing, because it's a hell of a job to safely land a plane like that on water. Granted, it does have some support built in for ditching, but a ditching without even injuring anyone on board and leaving the plane intact enough to float long enough to get everyone off by boat was remarkable. He even calmly picked a ditching site close to where he knew there would be a number of boats.
For the hero thing, get this: After the evacuation, he walked the length of the sinking plane to confirm that there was no-one left on board. Just in case there was, for example, someone who had been knocked out and overlooked. He knew that there were holes in the plane and that it was sinking, but he walked the entire length of the plane (twice, as he had to come back) because he took personal responsibility for the safety of everyone who flew with him.
Use a weighted object for test runs & have like 100 test runs first, Then get someone young & drunk to go for it promising them nothing but the Lol's & the Buzz of a life time.
Kudos to All involved I say as I've watched it a hundred times & still watch it again today.
