My friends old cavalier did something like that before. The engine carried on running even though he took the keys out. Fortunately for him, it was only idling so in order to turn it off he had to stall it.

I don't get that. Firstly because he/she didn't just turn the engine off, secondly it must be the throttle is jammed, and thirdly.. WTF?! Turn the damn engine off!!!11one


Similar thing happened to an old woman in an extremely mint Austin Meastro a few years ago, opposite my house. Throttle jammed. It was grinding itself to death, I offered to stop the engine (I was going to turn the key, failing that dump it in 4th), she didn't want me to go near it (she was a little odd), eventually it went bang and died out :(.
 
On turbo diesel if the tubro breaks and lets/lekak oil into the intake the the engine runs on that instead of deisel untill the engine goes bang or runs out of oil. Ignition swith then does nothing to stop it as that only cuts of deisel not the oil leak thats feeding the engine.

Diesels do not need the ignition once they are running, the only way to turn one off when it gets to this stage is to hit the fuel cut off valve
 
Narrow, winding, soaked moorland track, in the fog. Obviously it's time to put your foot down! In-car camera with Sebastien Loeb on a rally stage, absolutely brilliant.

This is some top class driving and puts in to perspective the skill that is required to be a leading rally driver. Great camera angle and way more intense viewing that boring F1. IMO rally driving like this requires more skill and is equally if not more dangerous that F1 which is just overkill and a procession.

Im a MotoGP fan myself :)
