It would be horribly sad if we are alone.

Breathtaking. It's so hard to comprehend that all of that is out there, all those galaxies with so many things all happening right now as I type this.

As for being alone, I think the sad part is we'll probably never know. Our capacity to obliterate ourselves will probably be realised long before we possess the technology to actually discover life elsewhere in the cosmos. Though I am holding out for fossilised evidence of bacteria on Mars
