I think Cody's Lab is an interesting channel. He's a chemist and does various chemistry at home stuff. Here's his video on extracting purified granulated sugar from beets he grew in his garden:


He also has a mine (big garden!), extracts stuff (usually metals) from ore and waste products...all sorts of stuff.
 
There's a game in which the protagonist makes a crossbow from scrap bits that heats and fires red hot pieces of rebar because reasons. So of course someone decided to see if they could make a fully functional replica of the ingame crossbow.


I'll be looking at more of that channel. I got to it because Joerg Sprave (Slingshot channel) had it as a video they liked.
