So it's around the new year of 1954/55 and a request is put out for a plane that can do 4,500 mph in air. And it also needs to be able to fly to space. And re-enter the atmosphere. And land on the ground, like a normal plane. That would be a tall order today, but in 1955 it was pure sci-fi. Pretty much everything required either didn't exist or was unknown or at least solely theoretical (e.g. hypersonic aerodynamics). Plenty for engineers to get their teeth into on that project!
 

Jesus Christ, almost 650lbs. Her forehead looks like it's also started to store fat as the body has run out of places to put it. :eek:
