I am guessing you are younger than me then. Yes there is a reason. Jeans didn't used to come pre-distressed. You would buy jeans and just wear them. But cool kids would distress them either by rubbing them on the ground or by putting rocks in the washing machine. Then jean companies picked up on the idea and started selling them distressed. That's where the term "stonewashed jeans" comes from.
