Anyone else notice that youtube videos seem to be playing back ever-so slightly slower? More and more often I find myself playing back at 1.25 speed to get the right pitch/speed of the voices. The cynic in me thinks this is so youtube can stick more ads in!

Anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?

not noticed that...sure you don't have some plug-in or something installed

changing the speed doesn't (shouldn't) change the pitch either...with Youtube's built in speed control anyway, you can slow down/speed up music videos and still play along with them, just slower/faster, same notes etc

Not having that particular problem, but over the past week or so any Youtube video I'm watching is randomly pausing during playback requiring me to hit the play button on my keyboard to start it again.

I watch youtube too much and have noticed 0 issues

using ublock origin to block adds on there.

maybe you have a varus mining bitcoins in the background or something? monitor task manager when you watch a video and see if you spot any CPU usage anomalies

Only time I've ever seen anything like that was with some older versions of Minecraft where they had some bug which would cause the system clock to progress 25% faster than usual when the game was active. Possible you have a hardware timer problem.

Good shout. Not YouTube, but when a friend and I meet up on Zoom and he is mining, it makes him sound like a Dalek! The mining software using up most of his CPU / GPU cycles. When the mining is turned off, his voice is back to normal again, so he now knows to pause it when he is using Zoom

I get this but only when embedded in a forum. The website is fine as is the app.

Are you sure you haven’t just become accustomed to watching videos at 1.25x speed? Any programming videos on YouTube I watch at 1.5-2x and now 1x speed sounds unnaturally slow :p

I've noticed a few youtubers seem to purposely talk slow. I suspect they have deliberately slowed their video playback down so it lasts more minutes to watch it all.

Or if they are from certain parts of the US they talk slow anyway.

No background tasks or viruses etc. It's really subtle, and I wonder if @PaulM is right, I'm just so used to watching at 1.25 speed that anything else just sounds slow. One channel I regularly watch is a guy called JaWoodle, he's always talked fast it it seemed his recent videos have been a touch slowed down. Some of his earlier video intros have most certainly been reduced in speed.

one of the worst I ever came across was this guy......

They just want to stretch the videos to get more adverts but I think youtube works against them now because of how popular tiktok became for it's short videos.
I noticed there's tons of mini documentaries on youtube these days around 4 minutes long because that's how much attention span the new generation have apparently

It's a new feature of Youtube, it automatically adjusts to accommodate your intelligence levels.

Mine is a slide show :(

This irritates the hell out of me and is a massive part of my justification for using an adblocker. Loads of them do this, stretch a short vid to 10 minutes because that's the threshold for mid-roll ads so they get more revenue. You can usually tell when they're doing it and some people don't even try to hide it, look at Scotty Kilmer's channel for a perfect example. Loads of vids a few seconds over the 10 minute mark:

He's using click bait titles too... the second most annoying thing

youtube is destroying it self and they don't even realise or they just don't care because of the add revenue, if someone made a good alternative youtube would be dead but I guess no one can afford to

people can not find quality content on there anymore and the algo only recommends stuff you watched years ago...... 99% of the time they hope your senile or something.

I suspect the reason "react andy" ontent is to popular because it's basically the only way to filter out the decent content on youtube... having someone else curate it for you.

that's why on those videos in the comments people are annoying by them stopping the video to actually react and talk about it :p

Yup, thats the guys voice who seems to be one of the main people doing it. It's annoying as heck.

I actively avoid him... it's hard though I think he has about 10 different channels at least.

I click a video that seems interesting and just instantly think "oh not this guy again"

for entertainment videos, like if you're watching things on Youtube like you would on TV it's maybe annoying but for lessons/info on whatever hobbies/interests you have it's amazing

it's free :p, can always sign up for the paid up version using an Indian account/VPN or whatever the trick is but using Adblock/Ublock is fine for me...I'd put up with the ads if those stopped working

I've seen the same. I think it's often due to a very vocal minority shouting in the comments about people talking much too fast, ludicrously fast, insanely fast, incomprehensibly fast...when they're talking at a normal speed.

I watch many Youtube videos at 1.25-2x anyway. I find 2x is usually fine.
