Ok, I have had the Z 5500 for around a week and its been working fine with my Asus D2x. Today I started to view a video clip and the centre speaker started hissing, crackling, rustling and popping etc. It has now been doing this constantly now for the last couple of hours even when I am just on the desktop. I have tried rebooting, booting up into windows 7 and XP, switching the z 5500 off and on again. I have checked the optical connection, all the speaker connections and the control pod connection and all are fine. I have also tried swapping one of the satelite speakers with the centre one and the centre channel still has the interference on it no matter which speaker is connected.
So any ideas please because sending this all back would be one major ball ache.
Thanks guys.

Does it do it too when not plugged in to any sound source ? Or when using an analog connection? Perhaps try your onboard sound to be sure?

You need to break down whether it's a problem with the control pod/z5500 set, or with your sound card first before proceeding. Does the popping happen due to an unstable power source in the mains perhaps?

Thanks for the quick reply

Perhaps try your onboard sound to be sure? will check that now. just need to install the realtek drivers and enable it in the BIOS

You need to break down whether it's a problem with the control pod/z5500 set, or with your sound card first before proceeding. Does the popping happen due to an unstable power source in the mains perhaps? Don't know aout that one, I haven't changed anything in the last week and its only on the centre channel

EDIT:
Ok, just tried it with the onboard sound and its exactly the same. I take it that means we've ruled out the soundcard as the cause.

Aye, this is an odd one, but either something in the sub or the control pod is broken.

Ask logitech customer support ( file a support claim) if there are any issues like this known, mention that it happens on an analog connection and on a digital one, on 2 different soundcards and even when there's no soundcard plugged in. And that it didn't happen before.

Their support is usually good as they sent me a new control pod after my original one had a failed backlight on the screen. Didn't even have to send my original one back.
