Hi all

I've finally decided I can allocate a budget for a new set of speakers and I've narrowed it down to the two in the title.

Now, let me start with this:

I want the speakers for basically everything: games (pc & consoles (analogue via x-fi)), tv (it has an optical out which ill connect and then upmix probably via dpl2 if i get the logitechs), movies (via coaxial out on x-fi) and music (via analgoue x-fi). I do like loud volumes but that is NOT the priority here... I want the better sound quality between the two.

Both sets are available here in Malta for the same price so that is not an issue. Please do recommend seperates as I do not want to go down that route (price is an issue when it comes to this!) and I do want 5.1 (a low end seperate 5.1 setup costs at least 3 times as much as the logitechs :(!)

So if possible I would like peoples opinion on how the logitech and creative sets compare / perform in the following (especially with regards to the subwoofer as some say the logitech's subwoofer is too boomy...):

Music: Especially metal, trance and jazz

Movies & TV: All kinds of movies really ... tv I only watch sports so its not such a big deal

Games: I love 5.1 sound in games, I used to play online in competitions and LANs and had to use headphones.. I quit it all just because I hated the headphones! So again, which one you reckon is better?

Thanks in advance to anyone who bothers reading & answeirng :p

My personal experience of the 5500. First set were faulty, still awaiting replacement. Sats are crisp. The sub is OK, can sound a little muddy in my opinion, but there are a lot of setup options I've not tried yet. Assuming OCUK sort out the testing on my returned unit ( not sure why they want to test my speakers, high st stores wouldn't bother, they'd just replace them ), I would recommend them for the price.

Got the S750 but they're myt first set of high end PC speakers so i can't compare them.
I like them ( why would i not? :) )
Good bass
Fairly good highs n mids
7.1 SOMETIMES makes the difference in movies, but doubtfull in games
they need much space! it's no set for your common 2x4 meter room.
hardware upmixing from 5.1 or 6.1 to 7.1

But in the end they are nothing compared to my Beyer headphones.

I love my Z-5500 speakers, they have everything, great sounds, good thumping Bass, great for gaming you can feel and hear everything to clean and crisp. My only regret is that there not wireless ;)

In my oppinion wireless would actually put me off them, 2 extra plug sockets in use and it would probs be messed by the router.

I dont get it everyone goes on about thumping bass, I only get thumping bass were my desk is, and thats coz my desk is in the corner, and near the door on some songs it thumps so much its too much but in normal sitting positions there aint much bass, I have to be near a wall for good bass

I have read some reviews thats the S750 compared to mid range Hi-Fi setups, I dont think this is true if Hi-Fi's are as good as people say. I was thinking of getting those once but my only concern with them is the 8" sub, seems abit small, might not produce as much bass? like the Klipsch PM5.1, that has 2 8" but apparently its more distortion when it gets up to the level of the Z5500 at max.

Well my S750 Sub get everything in my room vibrating like doors n windows ( flat materials ) wich would say that it's powerfull enough. Anyway it starts to irritate after a while anyway so too much bass aint good too. You can't comepare them to hi-fi speakers as they're made for Pc and thus are less detailed anyway. lets say they are good for gaming and movies, but get a real Hi-Fi set for music. my 2c

i have a set of S750s, can't recommend them enough, ive only ever used them in a 5.1 config but i think im gonna get the other 2 out and 7.1 it up :D

Gigaworks S750 owner here, great bit of kit.
Amazing for games and films thanks to the huge power at your disposal and even for delicate music they are a very capable set of speakers.

On a side note I see you live in malta, I have a place in Gozo myself *waves across the channel* :p

Hmm do you have your speaker set there ? :P I went out and bought the Z-5500 as they were slightly more popular I'll come over check if I made the right decision!

That said, the Z-5500 are amazing for movies and seeing as that was my priority and I'm satisfied with the quality I think I made the right decision :)... Going from a set of P580 5.1 to them was definately a nice change!
