hi i thinking of getting the logitech z5500. however due to i have 3 computers in my room and the system has only 1 set of inputs i was going to make the audio run though a av receiver before going into the system. but some one told me that will either distort or just blow up, i was just wondering has any one did it before.

the z5500's have way more than one input.. can have like 5 or 6.

It can do a normal 5.1 (3 jacks) input, OR you can set it to have 3 seperate inputs (3 x 1jack). If you get me. Then its got 2digital, and one on the side i think (cant remember)

Um I dont know who told you it would blow up or whatever that's just not true lol! What you can do is get phono to 3.5mm cables and connect the 5.1 (6xphono) pre-outs on the av receiver to the 5.1 input (3x3.5mm) on the z5500. Or you could connect the optical/coaxial output of the receiver (if it has one) to the corresponding input on the Z5500. It should work fine and should sound great. I dont know how an av receiver would help you in your situation though, as most av receivers only have one set of analogue 5.1 inputs, so only one PC could connect to the AV receiver by analogue 5.1. You could use digital but then you might as well use the digital inputs on the Z5500: one PC connected by 3x3.5mm 5.1 analogue, one by digital coaxial, and one by optical coaxial. There is even a 3.5mm spare on the side for any other stereo analogue devices/pc's.

the AV receiver i getting takes in server 5.1 audio and then i can choose betwen them which one it out puts

btw is the pre outs when its not been through the amp?

Really? Your AV receiver has multiple 5.1 analogue inputs? What model is it, Im intrigued!
Yeah pre-outs are pretty much just pass through although I think you can add effects and stuff to them from the receiver.

2 digital on the back (coax and toslink) and also a 3.5 single jack on the side for an input (and also a second jack for output)

:)

multiple 5.1 I cant help you with ;) haha
