ok, so i am having problems with my build, ingame stuttering and programs taking longer than i expect to open. have been told it could be the cpu socket pins are bent (i really hope not) or maybe the hard drive. i have had a quick scan through the manual and pretty sure i have it plugged into the right sata socket (SATA3_0, White), but just want to check. which is the best port to have a sata2 boot drive connected?

The cpu dont have pins but the cpu socket does. you can connect the Hard drive into the white sockets or the blue but if its the boot drive the white socket would be best.

ok thanks, i have left those 2 empty and filled the rest (read the marvell ones were poor).
what symptoms would i get from a/some bent pin(s)

Maybe pc wouldnt turn on if you had bent pins is this a new build if so have you done a fresh install of windows and upto date drivers.

yeh i did a fresh install and updated all the drivers. i am hoping its a bad install or dodgey drive, its not the one that i had on my last build (it was my music hdd but i have moved that to a 2.5" drive to allow better airflow). my old build had a raid0 setup, so maybe i should try going back to that? or just try a different drive?
no issues with it turning on, it passed a good 45mins of prime, and all benchmarks are pretty high compared to my X2 555 (tri 3.8GHz) so i assume its running as it should.

Possibly not all the Ram showing up in Bios or Windows - happend to me 2 year ago on a I55 chipset motherboard.

reinstalled with the original raid0 hard drives i was using on my B55 setup, so will see if that helps.
managed to get front usb3 working (i had unplugged the lead whilst fiddling with the hdd light) and i got the hdd light working.
all ram is showing up, and flashed to the newest bios on first day when i had my G620 :( just praying that the fresh install on better hdd setup fixes it, else it will be a complete strip on saturday to check the cpu socket.

Latest BIOS is 1.5 and can be found here

Very easy to install, just:

  1. Download the 'Z68EXT41.7z' and extract it with 7zip/winrar
  2. Copy the file 'Z68EXT41.50' from folder onto a FAT 32 formatted USB
  3. There is an option in the BIOS called ASRock Instant Flash
  4. Select the file you copied and it should do all the rest for you :)

im on bios 1.50. didnt change the sata cable to test that (just fitted all new ones that came with the mobo on build). windows is having issues with updates on the fresh install :(

well just completed a race on f1 2010 so looks like the problem was probably the hard drive. just gotta get windows updates to work now.
