Just got mobo today. Pc wouldn't boot with led error pointing to dram. Found with the 4th slot occupied, even leaving the third empty and switching ram it will not boot. Faulty motherboard?

Thanks, Already tried that however my other diagnosis suggests there something wrong with slot 4 as 12gb works in 1-3 but not 1,2 and 4

So does it boot up with just one stick in (try each in turn)?

Also try one stick in each slot and see if it boots?

Try running (download and burn to disk) memtest.

All weekend it has run fine with 3 memory sticks, tonight I just filled the 4th slot with each of these memory sticks and it won't boot.

Make sure you are using the latest BIOS version. Also using 3 DRAM modules lower the speed to 1333Mhz then try the 4th module.

I've just bought the motherboard and am using ONE ram stick only for testing purposes.

Should the fourth slot not work with 1 piece of RAM (zero in other slots)?

I'm reluctant to start updating the BIOS, I'm still within 7 days of purchase.

Even though you just bought it that does not guarantee you have the latest BIOS.

The order in which the DRAM modules are meant to be inserted is by starting with the Light brown DIMM slot closest to the CPU, then the one further away. Then you repeat with the Dark DIMM slots. Going in an order different from this may in some cases lead to problems.

I updated the bios and rechecked the pins, still hasn't helped. When placing memory in slots 1-3 there is a satisfying click at the fixed end and another when it clips in. The 4th slot doesn't give that first click. Also there us a metal piece across the bottom of the slot about a quarter of the way down. The other slots don't have this, not sure if that is normal. I will provide a photo

Bottom slot, look above the writing PQ604 - there's a metal strip going across. I cannot see the metal strip in this image http://content.etilize.com/Original/1022147011.jpg found elsewhere

Have you tried running your board with just one stick and memtesting each stick in turn to check they are all at least working correctly at XMP settings.

It would also help troubleshoot if your supplied info on the rest of your system.

Do you have a stock intel fan to try 99% ofthese problems are either a contact issue within the socket i.e pins, the board warping or a contact issue in the DRAM socket its- self.

Yeah contact problem.

Can you try and straighten it with a steady hand???

It bent at a right angle, and has been pushed down by ram, so unlikely. But I might as well try

Well its no good I can't get under it and it's likely to snap if I could
