Hello

So i need a new SSD, Currently my Crucial M4 256GB has served me well it was one of the first at £399 from OCUK and i think i had it 6yrs now! But COD Warzone will not even fit on it so i need to replace. My platform seems it will never accept a NVMe drive and i need 1tb minimum so im resigned i think to buying a regular Sata 6gb SSD again and when i move to Zen3/Zen4 i will use it for a year to reduce my upgrade cost and eventually replace it again.

What should i buy? Whats the fastest? I have two on my radar the Samsung 860 EVO and the 870 QVO. But i think regarding the cache of only 6GB on the 870 and bad reviews the 860 EVO is the best i can buy yea? My budget is around £115 too. Thanks all!

mate do note buy QVO drive or QLC drive

do a bit of research in SSD see if you can find somehting reasonable with DRAM controller and a SLC-cached drive. this will be pretty speedy.

What motherboard / slots have you got?

Could always get an PCI-E Adapter card to fit a NVMe, and maintain your existing drive as a boot/os drive.

Z87 with a bios that has NVMe but not interested in that sort of setup tbh i looked into addon cards and really i doubt anything interests me. I might as well wait until next year and get a PCIE 5.0 drive and spend 100 quid now and the addon cards will drop my PCIE to 8.0 as well i got a soundcard in there so it wont work really.

I am going to look at what @pc-guy said and find a 1tb one and avoid QVO and QLC.

buying addon cards just add to the cost, i think those old Z87 boards don't have full PCIe 3x4 lanes on secondary PCie slots, it is only PCIe3x2 at best.

It has a bottom x4 i think but then that makes the main pci lanes run at 8x8 i think and i have a 2080ti so no thanks. And i can not afford the Samsung Pro the drive remains £200 versus the EVO £100 and i will not touch the QVO now either. There is also the Crucial BX500 so i think i have to settle with either the 860 EVO or Crucial BX500.
