Currently researching for my new build and have decided to go for a Z97 mATX build, what I want to know is are there any big differences between the likes of the Asus Maximus VII Gene or boards that are around £50-£70 cheaper? Is it worth the premium or are you paying for the ROG badge? I've trawled through loads of reviews and can't seem to see a massive difference I just wondered if anyone can share there expertise in this matter

Basically more features is what you are paying for. Things like better onboard audio, more sata ports, better range of expansion slots, mind boggling range of bios options that you will never use. Overclocking wise unless using extreme voltages and LN2/phase cooling you are not likley to get a higher clock than the cheaper boards. The cpu is the limiting factor with Haswell and you only really need to be able to change the multiplier, vcore, maybe vring and LLC too. My wifes B85M-D3H overclocks my 4670K to exactly the same clocks as my Asus Maximus Hero VI which costs £100 more.

All the Asus z97 boards are solid. I have the i-plus itx version and it clocks my 4790k to 4.6ghz no problems
