Z97X-SOC reboot issues

I recently picked up the Gigabyte Z97X-SOC and a 4790k in last weeks "this week only deals".

Now, I have that paired with G.Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 2400MHz TridentX using nothing more than X.M.P. (These damned 4790k's run freaking hot).

But frequently if I reboot the system Ill get the "Boot failure detected", it will then take a further 3 resets to be able to even use the motherboard/keyboard to select enter BIOS. Which is freaking annoying and makes me miss my P6T Deluxe.

In the BIOS I can literally F10, save and boot to windows just fine. Ive flashed the BIOS to F6, so it shouldnt be a BIOS issue. A google search has me seemingly alone on the issue. Which is why Ive turned to you fine folks.

Anyone using this board came across this issue or have any ideas on how to resolve it? I have "loaded optimized defaults" and yet the issues returns, not every reboot, just frequently. Its more common on a reboot than from a cold start.

Cheers,
Nige

I actually went in and began over clocking. Dialling in my on volts. At 4.7 everything is seemingly stable, I can reboot aplenty with no issue and so far 3 hours prime stable.

So seems it was the boards volts whilst it ran its on turbo core to 4.4.

Thanks for the replies, but I'm hoping its sorted.

Currently 1.27. Hoping to be able to tune that a touch when Ive got some time to really play at the weekend and my Liquid metal Pro should be here by then. Shes currently sitting under an EK Supreme HF venting on a PA.140.3.

Still deciding whether to delid the thing. Im completely up for it, but Ive read after a month or 2 the temperatures return to normal. Which has me looking at a Supremacy EVO with the precision mount to mount directly to the die. Just need to read some more before making up my mind.

If you are watercooled, there is no reason why not.

If your not worried about losing your warranty that is. :)

Currently chatting with EK support in regards to a new oring and a fancy new mounting kit for my Supreme HF Cu (Ive the block pre 1150, so it didnt come with the thumb screws etc) and he has rather interestingly told I can order a supremacy mounting plate, and thumb screw kit to mount to my Supreme block. So I just asked if the Supremacy precision die mounting kit will also fit. If the dimensions are the same Im all set!

OK, so this issue has kinda migrated and Im struggling to get to the bottom of it.

On a cold boot the system will hard shut down after a few minutes. On booting back up I get the same blue "Boot Failure detected" issue.

Ive tried raising memory voltage to 1.7. and my current volts are are as follows:

Upon entering UEFI and F10 and reboot, all is stable and I can game for hours on witcher 3 or wargame, whatever just fine.

The issue being with it happening once a day, its hard to nail the source. Tomorrow Ill try with just a single stick in and see how that goes.

In the meantime, perhaps someone has experienced something like this?

Have to tried setting turbo boost to off. It may be causing a conflict as it's core multipliers are different to yours.

Also isn't it recommended to run your vcore adjustments as an offset.

Although as you have the issue at stock then it seems as if it probably isn't an OC issue. Have you tested your SSD/HDD, maybe you have a failing drive.

Thanks for the reply.

The RMA process is all set for this board. Ive tried different OC values and even underclocked. Boost on and off and running at full stock. Hard drives all plugged in, and unplugged, stripped down th bare essentials, the full monty.

All would result in hard shutdown on first boot of the day. I'd three times held off hitting the final button yesterday on buying an MSI gaming 7, figuring I'd try one more attempt with the board on its backup BIOS.

Same issue resulted on backup BIOS aswell.

But, a quick look sprung up a suprise, gigabyte released a BETA BIOS revision yesterday in the form of F7A, showing improved compatibility with 5th gen i7's!

Flashed it, and today was the big test. The first boot has been on now 2 hours. Turned it on and went shopping expecting to return to the "BOOT FAILURE DETECTED" screen, but instead found the system up and running!

So, fingers crossed it wasn't a fluke and that F7a has actually resolved it!

F7A was an improvement, but not without issues, it had problems allocating PCI resources.

F7b is out, and it doesnt like USB sticks plugged in but excepting that it boots and stays on flawlessly.

So things are looking up!
