[Zagadka] the Lian Li Project

Which power pins?

The 2 marked Power Switch + / Power Switch -

This will eliminate a fault with the Power Switch mechanism.

Tried connecting with minimum number of cables; just the bit ATX one, the 12V CPU one, and the one connecting HDD/DVD. Left the tiny front cables disconnected from the motherboard.

Result: bright flash accompanied by loud "CRACK!" and instant smell of burning.

I like to think of myself as an optimist, but would it be fair to say that the PSU has just died?

Was going to say that the sound from the PSU continuing after turning it off could well have been the fan - I have the 600w enermax noisetaker and it continues spinning after being turned off for a bit (unil the temp is below 40C or something)....

Doesn't sound good though what with the flash bang and burning smell. :( Any response from it now? and do you have another PSU to use in the meantime whilst it's being RMAed?

Well, this is the problem... PSU was purchased 2nd hand from Member's Market and did not come with a receipt. So even if it's still under warranty (which I doubt) I have no way to RMA it. :(

I haven't tried the PSU again, and I don't have a spare to use in the meantime. So I've just dragged my HDD & DVD back to the trusty little Shuttle, and I'll have to wait until the 24th (when I get paid) before I can have another go... this time with a brand new PSU.

Recommendations for a new PSU are welcome; I'm leaning towards Zalman, but open to suggestions. Must be ~600W and preferably less prone to exploding. :)

Thanks mate, that's very kind of you. :)

Question is, will they accept an RMA without proof of purchase? Hopefully there's a model number or product code on it somewhere that will help to determine warranty status.

It's got a serial number on it which will tell them the build-date. It's under 3-years old, I'm nearly 100% certain it is.

You could also ask the person you bought it from when they actually did buy it of course.

Enermax refused my RMA after I told them I had no receipt  so I bought a Corsair 520HX instead. The Li Li started up on the first boot, and she's been running nicely ever since. :D

I know she's not an uber-clocked wundermeister machine, but she's my first ground-up build, so she means a lot to me. :)

Thanks again to everyone who sold parts and offered advice; I couldn't have done it without your help and encouragement.

Full worklog is here. Notice that I don't have the BFG inside yet; that'll come at the end of the month. Still running my trusty HD 2600 Pro.

It is a gorgeous case, especially with the CD stealth bezel. :)

The blue power led is incredibly bright; it reflects off the metal blades of a desk fan on the other side of the room!
