Zalman Z9 Plus - Cheap, Cool and Quiet Build

Oh yeah just seen in the pictures above :P

Want to upload some final case photos? :D
I can't wait until i get myn... I have the cash ready but waiting for stock...Grr.
Whats your final thoughts on the case?

I'll get some better pictures in about a week when I get my D-SLR off my step-dad :)

Final thoughts? Well, for £45 you really can't go wrong. :) Airflow is great, it's quiet, looks subtle, quality is surprisingly good. Haven't really got a bad word to say about it :p

Hopefully getting a new power supply soon, then graphics/cpu cooler :)

OcUK have them back in stock now :)

The fan controller has two connections, and the rear fan is molex which leaves just one fan that has to plug into the mobo.

I purchased elsewhere too, that was nearly a month ago now as well :p

I have purchased a new (well, second hand) PSU :) So that should be here in a couple of days, then I'm ready to upgrade the graphics once I have some money :)

Despite the fact that I mentioned it? :p

Anyway, look what arrived today :D

Hell yeah, and a bargain at £35 posted :p

I think 1kw might me overkill in your system, the 850w will still be plenty with lots of room to upgrade as well :)

Well, at that price it doesn't hurt to future-proof :p

It's all fitted now, looks so much better. Unfortunately the bottom fan wont fit, I managed to secure it with one of the 140mm fan holes so at least I can keep it there, still annoying though. Excuse the dust, the fan filters were clogged right up again :o The dust in my room is unreal :( I'll buy an air purifier one day as I have dust allergies as well :(

At least I have peace of mind from a decent PSU and I have room to upgrade the graphics. I can't decide between the 560ti and the 6950 though, not that it matters much, I have no money :p

Excellent, get a thread up soon then :p

Yes they work very well indeed, it's left on 24/7 which is why it gets bad so quick, I might start putting it into standby overnight to help reduce the dust!

6950 in my opinion :) and unlock the deamon ;)
The Z9+ arrived today... I am amazed with the quality... best bang for the buck!!!

Ps. will share some pics tmrw :)

It's getting hard to find rev1 versions which unlock now though apparently!

I was amazed with the quality also, it feels like a £100 case, I was expecting much worse!

Nice case and well worth the money :)

It sure is :)

Been a while since an update!

Finally got myself a HD6950 2GB, unlocked to 6970 :)

It's HUGE compared to my 800GT that's for sure lol!

I also had to remove the hard drive cage to make it fit! :(

Works like a beast now though! :) Not much more progress as I built a HTPC :)

Yeah but the case sits on the floor so I don't worry about the insides to much :p

I'm thinking of saving up and selling up when IB comes out and have a whole new build.

The accelero xtreme keeps the 6950 really cool though :)

You don't even want to know how much pain that power switch caused me on that case. Was building a friends PC (while he was watching) finally put it together after suffering a really deep cut courtesy of those PCI slot covers, plugged it in, pressed the power switch- nothing. Checked the power switch connection to the motherboard- fine. Stripped it down, checked for shorts, tested outside the case then it was only when I put it back together that I saw that you have to plug the power switch in as it was on the front panel :P

Hahahahahha :D:D:D D'oh! :p

I think an SSD may well be next for this, also a better CPU cooler!

One of the cathodes died the other day :( I may not replace them as I'm looking at getting a backlit keyboard :)

On the other hand I'm waiting for this to come from overclockers:

:)

I'd like to spend a lot more on it but I can't justify it sadly :( It's performing great though, hoping to lower the CPU temps a bit as I'm running it at 3.6GHz now :)

My parcel arrived today :D

Here's how it used to look, crappy old Arctic Freezer 7.

Now with Antec Kuhler 620 fitted with 2 fans in a push-pull setup :)

Replaced the pre-applied TIM

Before
Ambient temp: 23.2°C
Idle: 54°C
Load: 79°C

After
Ambient temp: 22.7°C
Idle: 40°C
Load: 61°C

Made a massive difference to CPU temps :)

Both tests carried out on a Q6600 running at 3.6GHz (400 x 9.0x) with 1.296v in CPU-Z at idle and 1.288v under load.

New 140mm fan as an intake for the front, it's pretty noisy tho, I need to get a fan crontroller at some point now that I have 6 case fans, plus the 3 fans on the graphics card, plus the PSU fan :p

Congrats dude, that sure is some significant difference on the temps! Sorry to hear about the 140mm being quite loud. Was tempted to install one myself. Are you using those anti vibration fan fittings by any chance? Could be a good should have you're not. I bought the akasa ones and they're pretty good.

It came with a set of anti-vibe pins but I used them on the fan on the side panel instead :p I've connected it up to the fan controller on the case and it's still very loud, certainly shifts some air though! I think I'll get a 'proper' fan controller which should allow for some more control over the fan speeds.

Looking good man, glad to see you improved your temps! Do you recommend the Kuhler?

Without any bout I recommend it to anyone! Especially at £40 :) Only criticism I'd give it is that it's pretty fiddly to install, you have to loosely scrw on the bracket and them fit the cooler and twist it, at the same time you have to hold the bracket up so that it will twist underneath! The instructions are very vague too. But it's exceeded my expectations. Plus I left it on all day when the room temp drops to around 19°C and here's the lowest idle temps :)

Check out the minimum temps :)

Well I tried for 4ghz, managed to boot into windows at 1.5vcore but it soon bsod'd :p I think that's the limit of the chip really. I'm happy with 3.6ghz at the volts and temps I have though.

Small update, the 140mm at the fan was making a hideous amount of noise, so enough was enough and I chopped out the grill on the intake.

Much quieter, and much better airflow :)

Decided to re-jig all the other fans and have a bit of a tidy up while I was at it.

Looks soo much better now it has to be said :)

Yeah the dust filter is still over it :) GPU temps have dropped a few degrees, it really shifts some air that fan does! But that grill over it was making silly amounts of noise.

They're currently pushing out, I will try them as an intake later on and see what happens though.
