Hi, Will a Zalman ZM-NB47J fit my a8n-sli, the space between the graphics card and asus fan cooler is pretty tight allready but the zalman is supposed to be ajustable?

Also - very important; will my chipset run hotter because theres no fan? or should it be around the same??

thanks guys

I would say you will be ok. On my mobo it fits well in between the 2 screws. Its very adjustable and I could twist mine around to a new angle if needed.

As for temps they will be the same/better PRESUMING you have airflow in you case, it will get a bit toasty otherwise

It fits in my system just, although when i had the stock cooler on my leadtec 6800gt i had to twist the zalman round. With an akasa 120mm fan at 5v and a zalman fau1ty gpu cooler blowing over it i get about 32 - 35 degrees, which is fine for me. I dont think id be able to have sli with it in though.

so that heatsink would be better than the stock cooler?
Yes, Im guessing you have airflow in your case, so it should be cooler.
You can always hack off a couple or bend a few pins if it doesnt fit correctly, fitted my mobo better than my stock heatsink which touched the graphics card.

I have akasa ultra quite fans in my case. 2 at the front bottom and 1 at the top rear and then the PSU, will this be enough airflow ??

Hi did have the asus premium with the heatpipe. I stuck a zalman on top of the heatpipe bit and then had an 80mm fan blowing onto it nearby and it dropped temps by nearly 10 degrees.

Now got dfi expert and so just running a zalman. Temps stick same as with stock cooler with 80mm fan at 12v but rise 10degrees (to 40) when 5v fan. This is all in a eclipse 62 case so there is good airflow

You could enable SLI & make both PCIe slots 8x and move your GF down a slot, this would give ample clearance for the ZM-NB47J.

I have moved my 7800GT with a (NV5r3) on a DFI LP-Ultra-D down to the second slot and it has taken off 200 points in 3dmark2005, this sacrifice is well worth the annoying sound my NB fan was making.

I have a 120mm fan on the front of my case which provides ample airflow for the passive NB cooler.

Hope this helps.

I have installed the same northbridge cooler on my a8n-sli, it's not too close I wouldnt say, so you should be ok. My card is a 7800GT btw.
I took a picture (excuse the rubbish quality). :)

I have a ASUS A8N SLI DELUXE and a 7800GTX, it fits fine but mine is off center, and I can fiddle with mine abit.

Temps are (guessing MB temp is NORTHBRIDGE temp in ASUS PROBE) 34C idle, I have no fans blowing on it.

Im trying to get one to blow on it though. It gets very hot to the touch.

Dont know if its OK or not... but my instinct says it's way to high...

Did you use Arctic Silver 5 HS compound on this?

What you have to also bear in mind is that the display card is blowing HOT air directly in the direction of the NB ...

Time to spend more money on the Artic Cooling NV5r3 which pushes the hot air in the other direction but then you'll have to move the display card down a slot as the NB cooler will catch on the Arctic Cooler :(

MY house mate has the same board with a 7800 gtx and the zalman northbridge cooler, it is damn tight, pretty much touching, they **** really move the nb a bit futher away considering how big the coolers are getting these days.

My X800XL saphire cooler (removed the day i got it for waterblock) was heavier than the actual card its self and i couldnt even test the card before i removed the stock cooler cause it wouldnt fit in my case anyway :( On one of my old soltek boards my ram was nearly touching the back of my ti4200.

Make the boards a little bigger tis what i say :)
