Zalman ZM-NB47J Northbridge Cooler + A8N SLI

Ahhh.... an excuse to re-display my butchering of a Zalman northbridge :P

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I've finally done it! The zalman heatsink came today and I set to work.

Here was the problem. My Ati Silencer 5 was blocking the stock northbridge fan (which was very noisey!):

So I butchered the zalman as there wasnt much room to play with:

(Notice how big the Freezer 64 pro is!!)

And this is what it looked like put together:

I drilled some holes in my Silencer to help airflow around the heatsink:

Here's a general view of my case:

And as an aside, I got around my intiial fitting of the silnencer by making a hole in the cooler as you can see to allow the capacitors to fit in:

It's worth noting 2 things:
1) I've tidied up my case a lot and di a lot of wire managing to improve airflow.
2) The heatsink actually works still!! Never had any problems since I did the job before christmas.

Dude could you of butchered the NB cooler anymore :D the fussy images could make it look worse than it actually is :D

What temps are you getting with the NB cooler in that state?

Luckily I have a SLI board which will allow me to use the second PCIe slot spareing the menace of my thin nose pliers to the NB cooler. :D

Thats brilliant. How were your temps after. I had one of the mounting pins on my zalman 47 fall out the other day (its been removed a few times now and pin on its way out). Temps rocketed to 54degrees as heatsink wasnt touching nb. Alarms woke me up and i just hit ignore from bed and went back to sleep. Still no harm done by morning.

Here is my effort, you'll note its bent :( gutted.

But it sits at 49c load & idle :( time to turn up the 120mm fan infront of the case me thinks...
