I've managed to finally persuade a friend to go on Holiday with me and we have decided upon the Greek Island of Zante.

As anyone ever been and what are your/their recommendations of the island?

(I am going the last week in June and praying it is going to be red-hot)

:p

I had my first ever foreign holiday with mates there when I was 16.

Awesome place. Laganas is the epicentre of the nightlife.

I went a few years ago, 2005 I think.

I went to Tsilivi and it wasn't bad. Nightlife wasn't all that (didn't go to Laganas :() but lots to do during the day and fantastic weather.

I'm going to Corfu for 2 weeks on the 6th June with some mates... can't wait :D

Zante's Laganas area is perfect for that "lads holiday"... I know as me and the chaps did it a few years back (nearly 5 now )- it was very hot, about 15 minute walk to the beach past as many bars as you could see.

Clubs were free and plentiful, locals were non-existant (or well hidden), food was cheap, booze was cheaper- majority of places giving out 2/3 free shots with every pint bought which was around £1.50.

Most clubs open until 5am, "black & White" was open until 8am on foam party night (although if you hadn't left with someone by then you would be far too drunk on the cheapy drinkies to realise the time.)

When we went we were spoiled by sharing our hotel with a girls netball team holiday which was superb!!!

We went in the July and were caught in the sun everyday of our 11nights - very intense heat but 'dry' rather than 'muggy' if you can relate to that :)

If you are looking for more of a cultural and quiet holiday I would recommend the Tsivili area: it is much quieter and has no 'yob-attachment' :p There are several great excursions to be taken from this area also- "quest to shipwreck cove" (or whatever cheesy title it holds) is suprisingly worthwhile, beautiful little hidden gem of greek beach scenary. The Blue Caves are also beautiful. There is also a high chance of seeing Turtles during the summer :)

I wouldn't go back to be honest as I feel as a (relatively) small island it has nothing new to offer me now. This atop suspicions that the 'lads-holiday' area will have increased in both size and rowdiness, and I'm quite frankly past that stage of holiday desire :)

that view of the shipwreck from above is pretty impressive. The platform is just suspended over the edge of a cliff with a huge drop above it. If you go around sunset there is no-one on the beach so it looks much better. When we went there was a single yacht there and nothing else.

You can't get to the beach from the top so it's quite a long boat ride away from another place. Didn't think the boat was worth it imo, completely overbooked / crowded, but some people probably like that...

We were staying in a villa in the mountains above the cloud line, around agios leon, so it was a really quiet area, pretty much the only tourists anywhere around, but equally it's a relatively small place so you're never that far from anywhere. There are also some crazy roads up to some cliffside restaurants, can't remember where that was though - looks like it's kampi, the mountain with the cross on top

edit: this was june last year and was around 40 degrees c on the last couple of days. Didn't rain once in the two weeks we were there

also have fun in the airport on the way back ;) maybe they've improved it by now as there was some building work going on... Basically everyone going to the uk is at the airport on the same day. The waiting room thing was crowded to a busy-nightclub sort of level

One restaurant has the largest greek flag in the world too. It's huge...

Been to Zante. Stayed in Argassi and it was a bit of a dump to be fair. Well, actually, it wasn't all that bad. But across the island there were lots of unfinished or poorly maintained buildings. Driving around the island was good, lots to see and do. Visited Laganas which was impressive to me as a 16 year old, and that shipwreak is actually rubbish. The boat journey to their was ace though.

Oh agreed the wreck itself is a pile of masturbational resultant juices. But the beach I thought was lovely :)

HOW COULD I FORGET THE AIRPORT! :D About the size of a tennis court, with its single luggage belt and 2 departure gates : for your sakes I hope it has seen improvement in the past 5/6 years :p

^^
Nope its still really small and takes ages to get baggage, yea wear something cool going over because you will roast in the airport otherwise waiting for your bags Zante end,

I went to Tsilivi aswell, Was HOT, heat wave when I was there last year.

I was there in June last year and there was a new arrivals hall that is a vast improvement over the original one that did have just a single conveyor, very hot and overcrowded. The new one seemed like any other modern one.

I understand there is a new departure lounge just opened this summer too. The old one was horrid. I will find out in about 5 weeks !
