Zen news 'Going forward'

Im hoping it will be worth the wait.
I do like AMD and have ran AMD for years but have just bought a 4690k bundle as AMD hasn't got anything available at the moment that I could class as an upgrade over the 8350.
Im hoping ZEN will change this and will bring AMD back into the game as I for one would be happy to try it out

Nothing would please me more (with regards to the CPU marketplace) than Zen being a Sandy/IvyBridge equivalent. The lack of competition since Bulldozer has been stifling the performance segment :(

Same here, I'm currently running a 4790k ATX mid tower build but I'm hoping that AMD will give me the chance to build an ITX rig in 2016 with more than 4 cores that can at least match Haswell's thread performance. A decent performing 8 core and a die shrink card should make a great build that will last a good while now that the new techs are on the table.

We need Zen to hit back at Intel but until it's launched and reviews are out I am not believing anything about it. I am sick and fed up with AMD's bs hype only to find out when a product launches that it's just meh or crap (Bulldozer for example).

Zen takes on a more traditional AMD CPU layout resembling that of Phenom

Lol..I had a flutter of dewy eyed nostalgia when I read that.:D

I loved my unlocked 4 core Phenom II 550, served me so well for nearly 4yrs.

^^^^ me too, had a Phenom x6 (1090t) for 4 odd years until I went the i7 route. Did me proud tbh.

Anyone know how well the original Atholn sold?

It's probably best to wait until it's actually out there, I can remember all too well the hype surrounding Bulldozer. AMD are in a situation right now where they need to spread confidence about their future.

The thing that makes me skeptical is that even if AMD can pull a rabbit out of the hat and match Intel on performance you can bet that TDP will be a lot higher.

The nice thing about starting this thread now is that when the real facts get added, the first two pages are going to be filled with people predicting how it will turn out. Will make a nice juxtaposition.

Personally, I hold that it will be a great chip, below Broadwell in IPC but dripping with cores and cache and PCI-e lanes and very well suited to be the heart of a decent desktop. Then AMD will dare to price it similarly to Intel chips that are equivalent in performance and it will be damned from all sides for being too expensive. :)

But I hope it does well, regardless. If AMD go down the last thing any of us see will be Renée James coming at us with a cash register and an axe.

Its got to be good. If its not, then AMD are going to be sat on it for 4 years like they have bulldozer derived CPUs...

I really do hope its great, but honestly, I'm struggling to think of a reason that suggests it will be... AMD haven't really knocked one outta the park for a while now. Maybe tahiti was their last success if we are counting the GPU division too?
