Zero Punctuation thread

Ive only recently watched these, the first was his COD4 review, think my sides hurt for about a day after.

What is QTE?

And is the DMC4 one not giving hassles for anyone else? Both IE and FF CPU usage shoots up and browser crashes. Only on that particular one.

Urgh.

I don't mean to sound anti-Yahtzee, because I do find him funny, but too many people are beginning to parrot what he says, especially when it comes to the games. That's not the point! Just because he slates a game, that doesn't neccesarily make it bad. I laughed and agreed with most of his points on his Mario Galaxy review, but that doesn't stop it being one of my favourite games of the year.

And realy, appart from his repeated bugbear about QTEs, how many other non game-specific opinions has he really sounded?

Agreed. His main point of criticism for Drakes Fortune was that all the enemies weren't white, well for starters the enemies are Panamanian pirates, so having a white bloke would have been a bit wierd and secondly, it's really not a very good criticism to base the majority of a review on really is it.

He isn't a particularly good reviewer, he tends to get hung up on very insignificant elements of games and slate them and rarely analyzes a game as a whole - as many professional review websites manage.

All that said, i do find him funny and an excellent entertainer. I don't think he's even TRYING to be a good reviewer, i just wish people would stop saying he is.

He's an entertaining reviewer, you don't really watch his review and base on that to buy or not buy a game. More often than not, his review only makes sense AFTER you have played the game and then his jokes in the review becomes even more funny.
 
Lol, at the people that are saying he's a bad reviewer. Its comedy! its not meant to be a serious source for opinions on games. I love DMC 4 but some of the stuff in that review just made me chuckle (ones pussy whipped, the others a ****)

I think you missed my point entirely, i wasnt telling everyone he was a bad reviewer, i was informing those saying that they agree with everything he says when he does a video that i don't think he is actually trying to review the game fairly.

Hes just an entertainer, and his medium happens to be slating computer games in an amusing manner.

Sorry I wasn't specifically directing that at you. I totally agree with you on that point. I've disagreed with him on several reviews before.
 
I'm not parroting what he says but games today are not like what they used to be. They used to be so unique and full of new stuff. Now it's just constant sequels with the odd new "feature".

Like I said, he's not a reviewer in the full sense. He's a critic. He finds faults rather than look at the good points. A reviewer has to be open minded and has to think about the target audience. A critic can slate it as long as what he's slating has real meaning.

The Devil May Cry 4 link on escapistmagazine's website no longer takes you to the review and also the DMC4 review has actually dissapeared from the list of reviews he's done.

Temporary website **** up or is this the beginning of Yahtzee being censored ?? :(


EDIT... after a little tinkering, its looking a bit more like a website error.... PHEW !!! :D

I agree, the 'reviews' are much better when you have played/finished the game.

Played the Burnout Demo recently and was quite impressed. Not sure if I'd like the full game though.
