My father in laws laptops L.E.D backlighting died and he decided time was for a new laptop, he uses it mainly for t.v use , the odd program and tiny bit of editing. He'd upgrade the failing laptop in the previous year with an extra 4gbnram to total 8gb and whacked in a 120gb SSD which is more than enough for the small assets and programs he uses. ( he has desktop for heavy duty audio editing ) he decided it had enough CPU power and so a budget laptop was in mind with the aim to drop his current memory(ddf3) and SSD in .
I visited every retailer possible from the usual branded supermarkets to so called large tech dedicated stores we all know and hate. It seems every laptop now right upto the budgets of £700 that I looked at has no simple upgrad ability anymore . No removal back panels for access to ram and HDDs to upgrade and no obvious sign of getting in without voiding warrenty , have tablets and smartphones eaten away so much at this market that there having to make them non upgradable for cost reasons or are they locking people out of upgrades to keep them in a perpetual cycle of buying a new laptop sooner due to market corrosion ? This basicly forces to spend 150 quid plus on the budget just to get something with 8gb memory which has to come with a better CPU and then even more if we want to contemplate a SSD.
