Zetec Engine?

The 1.6 Zetecv-SE is a peach.

Decent manifolds, a snifter of porting and some bike TBs should see you pushing 180bhp for under a grand including engine.

yep, was soo tempted to do this to my focus as I had sorted the chassis and looks, and had the ltd edition interior. Got the bike in the end though (much better choice :D )

need some agressive cams and management also, so maybe more than a grand, but still a fantastic engine. Very light also!
Get a 1.6 zetec SE, shouldent be much more on insurance either really.

Doubt it? Ok try coming down my way and finding a 1.4 Zetec then? Its not as if i just made that statement up you know..

Well try getting one that was mass produced like the 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0L Zetec's. You can't be telling me they are in short supply

how heavy are the 1.8/2.0 engines then. My 1.6 with exhaust, filter bluefin would stay glued to the rear of a 2.0 focus quite happily a good friend of mine had one, Cant be more than 120 bhp with those mods. They are very light engines, and the 1.6 foci tend to handle better in my experience than the 1.8/2.0 due to the lack of weight over the front wheels. Although that is a bit squewed as I had adjustable koni's and 17" wheels (wish I had gone for 16's for the handleing, but didn't totally wreck it) for all but 6 months of my focus ownership.

long and short of it getting back to thread... find 1.6 focus/puma/fiesta zetec s engine, stick it in, get spanners out = fun.

Oakesy now getting perverse idea's about a 1.6 zetec project....

I nearly got a 1.6 Focus but was advised away from them as 70k seems to be a sweet spot where they like too spin bearings and throw conrods. The 1.6 is the same as the Fiesta Zetec S engine and part of the Sigma range Yahama had involvment with Maxda in developing it, these are the light ally block engines with the inlet manifold at the frone of the engine. In the Focus 1.8 and 2.0 its the Zeta Zetec with the manifolds the other way round and a heaver iron block AFAIK. Zetec-E was introduce to sort the sticky valve issue out then the Zetec-R after 1998 with mech followers and redesign 2 piece crank.

Finding either is not too much of a challenging task tbh.

seen many well over 70k Abused ones at that. Also been in a kit car powered by one which was a suspected 210bhp ( butt dyno had no reason to doubt it was around that area)
Very impressive from a na 2.0 ford, can tell there is a bit of jap (mazda/yahamha) in the mix :)

The 2.0 has nothing to do with the Japs. Did you quote what i said planning to read it later on?

This is the engine commonly known as the "black top" due to plastic cam cover. I'm fairly sure they do not have a two piece crank however, at least not the ones that are still working :D It does have a two piece alloy and steel sump which the older "silver tops" did not.

The iron blocks?

You're looking at about 130Kg...plus alternator...plus pumps... :/

Did you see the orange Kadett being built by a guy I know? About 230bhp from a 1.6 Zetec SE on stock internals...In an 800Kg car.
