Zetec tuning...

I have the 115ps variant, so I stand to gain ~15ps with the new cams, providing I address the other areas. Hmm...

Can the 1.8 ECU adapt to the 2l cams or is it crippled?

What you really want to do is look for a nicely flowed head on eBay and match it with some warmer cams.

And use the throttle body off the bigger engine if it's bigger.

The 2l cams go straight into the 1.8 and as said with the bigger throttle body give around 130 bhp . My 1.8 was 175 with TB's and 2l cams and some mild head work .

Its a common mod for westfield owners (also done from the factory )

Crippled? If you mean do the ecu's have a different map for the 115ps and 130ps cams then yes. OEM adaptive ECU's aren't a substitute for a correct base map, they are designed to provide limited corrections to a base map as the engine and EFI components age. It will certainly run with the 1.8 ECU, but it's unlikely to give you the rated 130PS output and may give you driveability issues.

I have read in a couple of places now that the 1.8 Zetec lump came in two variants, one making around 105bhp and the other making a fair bit more (heard 130bhp touted?), with the difference being predominantly down to the cams. I have also read that these different cams are simply the cams from the 2L Zetec unit.

I forgot to bookmark all of these pages.

I have an opportunity to get the 2L cams, so if its worth a few bhp I may as well do it. Has anyone here done this and if so, what sort of gains were there if any (or have I totally misunderstood whatever it was I have read?). I would assume the 2L cams had a different profile given the extra capacity, but is that profile in the 1.8 going to bugger up my idle and low-end tract?

Your thoughts please.

In my bro's old 1.8 focus, I bought him uprated Ford Racing Cams and Pullies from the states, along with a Hi-Flow Sports Cat. Both of these were meant for the 2.0l engine, yet all fitted and worked fine in the 1.8l model. They are near identical bar a few minor changes. Couple this with the very touchy 165mm Throttle Body mod and your away.

Here's some pics for you.
