Zip Synology backups for S3?

Hey,

At work we use S3 for backups, and run shell scripts on the server to grab it all, zip it and send it up to S3.

At my home office, I have a DS215 using the inbuilt S3 backup functionality. This is proving quite slow, and the files are unzipped.

Is it possible to make the Synology zip the folder before sending?
