ZMA

Ah well, i've bought the ZMA now and it was only a months supply so no real waste. I'll just try doing it how you suggested above :)

You still thinking about competing?
Yes hopefully but it's on hold for now due to family commitments.

is ZMA not a rip off ? seems to be 20 quid a box?

the ingredients i can see are 30mg zinc, 11mg b6 and 450mg mangesium ?

ive stocked up on 15mg zinc tabs from holland & barrett, 87p for 60, so 30 lots of 30mg, just need some b6 and mg tablets too ?

i suppose its not, but in relation to other products maybe it is ?

h&b have 100 tabs of zinc calc and mg in the sale @ 1.62, 333.33mg calc, , 133.3 mg and 8.3 of zn

3 of those a day and youll be getting 1g of calcium (bonus), 450mg mg (same), 33mg zinc (slightly more), and theyll also last you a month (for 1.62, representing a 84.8% saving :P)

obviously theres no b6, but this is present in large amounts in chicken, fish, salad and vegtables, so i imagine youd be getting about the same amount of this as well, presuming you eat healthily too ?

The trademark branded ZMA stuff is a rip-off yeah. You can get some other versions that are similar like MP do 270 caps for about £16 which is less than half-price of other ZMA's. Still too much imho.

Buying those tabs from H&B isn't the same though, nice try :) The forms of zinc and magnesium in ZMA are in highly bio available forms L-Methionine and Aspartate.

Not chelated or gluconate like you will have, these just don't compare. The forms are very important. Oxides especially are very poor and should be avoided completely. If you have a cheap multi-vitamin check the ingredients, I'll bet most of the minerals are oxides (zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, etc)

Also it's recommended calcium should be avoided when taking ZMA, it competes/ interferes with the zinc for absorption.

didnt realise there was such a great difference, there zinc amino acid chelates

not sure what the difference is personally, but there cheap and do the trick for me :D or seem to anyway ;)

I'd be suprised if your body absorbs even 5% of each tablet ;)

One thing to be wary of supplementing zinc is if you have a tumour/cancer then the zinc can speed up the growth and progress massively according to some reports I read a while ago. It doesn't cause the cancer but if you have it and don't know about it!

It's a while since I read them and have no links but if interested I'm sure a quick google will throw up some results. Thought that might be worth mentioning with a nice cheery little post :D

I haven't been taking it recently besides after a night out drinking.

I always seem to get spots when I take it (which is a little annoying because I usually don't) but I suppose it could be classed on an indicator of slightly raised test levels or whatever.

Do notice that I feel like i've been in a deeper sleep when I take it though.

I think i'll just stick with ADAMS Multi Vitamin and get my ZMA from there for now. Although taking it in staggered doses through the day like I do with a multi vitamin doesn't have the same effect on sleep.

I've only been taking 1 cap a morning for a few days anyways because I don't feel like it's needed that much.
