Aliens, stupid aliens, mad over them, with their oval heads and oval eyes sort of like a bumble bee, why do people go on about aliens, just drives me up the wall, gets me so angry, I feel like smashing my Monitor over someones head.
 
Actually I also agree with the OP. Like anyone else who loves their horror I also luv a good zombie flick. But what the OP is getting at is that this stuff is EVERYWHERE now 24/7. Zombie this , zombie that, zombie clothes, zombie crawl, zombie party, zombie run, zombie chase, zombie mod.

Like anything else in life too much (even of a good thing) and it starts to lose its appeal.

Again - Im all up for zombies and zombie-boshing (who isnt?) but it seems that its following Xmas-style hype and we will be bombarded relentlessly with it and that = zzzzz.

Yeah, but aliens aren't an obvious fad. There have been aliens in entertainment for decades. Zombies have been bubbling under the surface (pun in there somewhere....) for a long time, but they have obviously exploded (...and again) just lately into a massive fad that will no doubt vanish when the next fad comes along.

In 20-30 years we'll look back at this decade and be embarrassed at all the zombie stuff....a bit like leg-warmers in the 1980's.

Not entirely, a parasite or virus could infect and control the nervous system and brain of the host, and create infectious matter in the hosts bloodstream and saliva. As it would be a parasite, it'd no doubt be animalistic, there isn't anyway it could actually control a host to function as it normally would. Now what is the one and only desire of a virus/parasite? Reproduce. Take that with it's animalistic intelligence and it's new 'plaything' so to speak, and it's hardly gonna be zombifying people to help them get their University degrees, it'll want to reproduce and it'll exhibit little to no intelligence, equals; ZOMBIES AS WE KNOW THEM DUN DUN DUNNNN.

Seriously though, look at Dead Island/Resident Evil, and how the viruses were made in those fictions; from plants discovered in aboriginal, undiscovered parts of the world.

Could happen.

As for the obsession, It's the power of killing something considerable, such as a person, with no moral or lawful consequences that is so attractive to people. According to several websites, anyway.
 
To be fair the whole 'Zombie' thing has been done to death and milked to the nth degree!
Don't get me wrong '28 Days Later' 'Shaun Of The Dead' and 'The Walking Dead' are all great but I think it's time to do something else as it's getting a tad dole now imho!

Yeah... I'm in this sort of mind frame myself. When it's done right, it's great to watch/play/entertain yourself with. But it's just the du jour thing, concerning 'horror'. But hey, at least it's not like the recent *******ization of Vampires, right? They're starting to get a bit overused, especially since their "revival" due to Twilight. Happy days...
 
Zombie movies are cheap to produce, zombie makeup is a hell of a lot easier to do properly than most other types of monster. Even the experts in hollywood sometimes have a difficult time making convincing looking ghosts/aliens/werewolfs..... but a bit of latex, some fake blood and your pretty much ready to start filming your zombie movie.
